旺仔 9 Oct, 2023 @ 12:11am
totally agree, why the tech can be lost?it is unfair
Average Democracy Enjoyer 29 Sep, 2023 @ 9:03am
agreed.... why should these techs be lost when Rome never falls??
Riekopo 10 Jan, 2023 @ 7:54pm
Can you do one final update please? Thank you so much.
Riekopo 27 Dec, 2022 @ 1:03am
Thank god for this mod. Extremely stupid how they built the tech tree.

Thank you Silentiarius! A very important fix for a good game.
twomillionupstarts 25 Sep, 2021 @ 2:08pm
I think the theory about causing crashes is right; the exact manners people have described is when my game crashes:steamthumbsup:

Long live paganism
twomillionupstarts 16 Jun, 2021 @ 3:17am
Hi Silentiarius; with ref to your theory; I think you're right. Wen I hav had problems with crashing, it's always happened at the end of a turn when the other factions makin movements

It always seems to occurr (in different games I have started) when a faction is moving in the Middle East area (ERE or Tanukhids)

Iv'e found the setting in campaign settings, and switched A1 moves to off

I'll let u know if I get crashes in the future

Thanx

@jaguarrix No it was a mixture of the Byzantines, Christian monasteries and Islamic scholars
Comrade Kolbasa 21 May, 2021 @ 8:49am
@jaguarrix you're talking about the "classics" we're talking about freaking CONCRETE.
Auli 15 May, 2021 @ 5:49am
It was the Muslims that preserved the classics but ok
AlviseLeone 6 May, 2021 @ 2:09am
Like Jaime the gamer... same here. Tech still there ;(
Jaime The Gamer YT 26 Apr, 2021 @ 8:25am
Im playing as the ERE and the technology tree still displays them cancel of those techs

This mod works as of this post; I tested it just now. A few months ago I even played a heavily modded game and made it to the 450s with very few crashes.

My crashes in my heavily modded playthrough were mostly down to something the AI was doing. I found that disabling the option to show the AI's moves in campaign settings was what usually helped.

Since Attila is pretty unloved by C.A. the game seems rather unstable at the best of times. If your game is crashing, it is almost certainly not this mod. If the mod is just not working, I recommend making sure your install is good and also keep in mind that this mod is generally incompatible with other mods that alter technology effects.

Thank you all for your continued interest in this mod! :westernromanempire::easternromanempire:

As someone who studied this period of my Master's in Theology- I'm really glad you made this mod to remove this really a-historical mechanic!
Helikos 19 Feb, 2021 @ 3:43pm
My game is vanilla. Your mod emphatically does not work.
Lorenzius 1 Feb, 2021 @ 4:47pm
Not working for whatever reason. Maybe not working with another mod?
webo.1 17 Jan, 2021 @ 7:12pm
My game keeps freezing then eventually freezes with this activated. No other mods.
IrishHitman 24 Dec, 2020 @ 3:50pm
...Christianity was one of the reasons for the decline of the Roman Empire, but not its technological decline..
Ragnarok 7 Aug, 2020 @ 6:53pm
THANK YOU!
As a historian, this has always irritated me. Faith is not necessarily incompatible with learning (yes Galileo and all that, but still) and the tired old meme needs to die.
Nicow:) 26 Apr, 2020 @ 7:57am
i agree with you !
Silentiarius  [author] 26 Feb, 2020 @ 2:26pm
@Phoseon Sorry for the late replay but I tested it for the current version of the game and it should work. Try reinstalling?
Phoseon 20 Oct, 2019 @ 5:50am
It didn't work for me. Am I missing something? (P.s. I don't use any other mods)
Sean 12 Oct, 2019 @ 12:48am
Unrealistic. I remember when I learned a bit about the bible and suddenly forgot how to bathe :P
Wesley_E 23 Aug, 2019 @ 4:59pm
Cant play as the Romans without this mod! Thank you!!
MRPosser 14 Aug, 2019 @ 12:01am
Thank you so very much for the saved game mod. CA really should not have turned off techs just coz you research religion! And my WRE is greaco Roman pagan to boot! I converted! lol

I really think Christians need some better PR when I read opinions like this. But I think it is similar to political fragmentation - you basically have two camps that almost cannot find anything they would agree on. It is sad that even history is object of this fragmentation of worldview.
Dr.Blbstein 16 Nov, 2018 @ 8:15am
The "traditional helleno-roman" knowledge and philosophy was still alive after 4th century. For the philosophical side, see many disputations between classical and christian philosophers, for example Origenes and Kelsos (christian x stoic/sceptic) and these disputations were more influential than angry mobs. For the technological side, see Hagia Sophia, the literacy rate of (Eastern) Roman Empire ("Byzantium" as enlightenment historians nicknamed it), which West managed to reach in 17-18th century. Or, for example, the missions of monks Konstantinus and Methodeus, who not only taught Slavs how to write (the cyrilic/azbuka alphabet), but very likely taught that to Arabs as well. If you are interested in military history, the "Greeks" still wrote military stratagems and historiographic works well into late christian period - for example the most famous: Alexiad.
ImperiumMMXIII 28 Oct, 2018 @ 12:41am
With the establishment of Christianity as the main religion in the Roman Empire all libraries were burned, there were clashes between them and pagans.
We have lost not only knowledge, but also the past.
Christianity-very convenient, from the point of management of people, religion.
You can read books by Vladimir Megre (in this case 6-7 of the book "the family book" and "life Energy").
But this is my opinion about the above!
atrema99 9 Oct, 2018 @ 3:49am
for all the time i've owned the game i've never been able to complete the roman civil tech tree because it bummed me so much to lose legacy of the flippin' acqueducts. I mean what the heck CA. Now I finally can play without hatred, thank you!
Smokedice 5 Mar, 2018 @ 7:59am
This shouldn't have to be a mod. CA should have realized this mechanic was completely idiotic and anti-historical (well, maybe playing the WRE so well that it survives the Dark Ages is historical). This should have been an official patch! I guess you have lots of flaming atheists at CA who don't know how to separate their own personal worldview opinions from the actual time period.
WALMART 10 Feb, 2018 @ 10:05am
Best mod ever
Supreme Overlord of Eart 3 Feb, 2018 @ 2:17pm
Just a side note, "Christianity" did almost nothing to preserve classical learning. It is the near east that is responsible for the preservation of knowledge and learning.. Just as christianity did almost nothing to preserve classical knowledge, it had almost nothing to do with its destruction. While monks often wrote over ancient texts, it wasn't out of malace, it was because they wanted the materials. But in any case, thanks for the cool mod. The loss of knowledge was a poor way to impliment what they were going for so thanks for fixing it!
Big Boss 30 Jan, 2018 @ 10:54am
I think there are arguments for both sides of this, christians like theodosius destroyed ancient greek architecture and ended the olympic games but then justinian obviously made use of technology and philosophy to create laws and amazing architecture
Smile 22 Jan, 2018 @ 3:47pm
i dont understand why they'd remove these to begin with
Джексон 16 Jul, 2017 @ 6:17pm
Oy vey goyim, Gibbon was a totally legitimate historian and his findings are (((infallible))). Spreading misinformation about Christianity's relation to Rome will lead to ant-semitism, I'm reporting this!!!!!!!
Httpx Apvhtetic 19 Jun, 2017 @ 3:55pm
lol i readed the old comments of the people that argued against this mod with "Christians were against knowdledge" when actualy in the real world, the ones that tried to rpeserve old operas and art were actually the christian monks
