Was the M40 protective mask in service with the US military in the mid to late 80s? I know the XM40 prototype was around at the time, since they wanted to replace the M17A2. However, the first and last time the M17A2 was extensively used was in Operation Desert Storm, and that was in the early 1990s.

I would say the modeled unit is more of 1986-'91, than 1985. The USMC and non-frontline Army units were still issued older M1 helmets in 1985. PASGT helmets and vests were just being introduced to the rest of the US Armed Forces such as the Marine Corps, in 1985 (only frontline and Army airborne units were issued the gear before). They only mostly finished doing so by 1987. The NBC mask is also an M40 gas mask, which wasn't fully issued until about 1990-1991; the military's main issue NBC mask in 1985 was the M17A2 gas mask, which was replaced by the M40. Sorry if I sound hostile or like a smartass, I just wanted to help, and I thought maybe I should point these out, just for the facts. This is still an awesome playermodel, and it's something nobody's made before and something I've been waiting for, so thank you very much for this fine piece of work!
