@Crimson_Ronin Valve provides a "Self-Made" quality version of the accepted items to the creators/contributors of said items. That is what happens for Team Fortress 2 at least. I imagine there are similar, if not identical procedures for the other Valve games accepting community contributions.

Keep in mind that I am saying this as a consumer, not a creator.
