This does not have all the settings that this mod changes but it does let you change some of the settings, It's called Difficulty Tuning- https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=519781146&searchtext=difficulty

Hello! This sounds like an amazing mod and something I need, but I see from the comments that it no longer works. Can someone recommend other options?
KhalfaniBenz 16 Apr, 2021 @ 6:32am
still work?
TianTian 29 Apr, 2019 @ 8:57am
This is one of the best mods I think. However, it is abandoned and nobody wants to continue the work. I used to love the mod so much. It is the only mod that makes traffic important for building leveling.
Mazisky 18 Mar, 2019 @ 1:07pm
I wonder why no modder is interested in resuming this since it was the best mod ever made who totally changed the game for the better.
gravage 14 Jan, 2018 @ 6:26am
This mod hasn't worked since at least as far back as 2015. It is abandoned.
Simo 14 Jan, 2018 @ 5:45am
Mod keeps spamming with with an IL code (Red error X) . Starting a new city without the mod and it still pops up 'Difficulty mod'
Aturchomicz 25 Nov, 2017 @ 2:31am
SO DOES IT WORK??

Good luck Senor.

I have all the DLC and trying to bring this mod back to life. Hopefully.
gravage 13 Apr, 2017 @ 5:55am
@dferdo_04 This mod doesn't work, it was abandoned a long time ago. You can read my last couple comments to find alternative mods that do much, if not more the same when employed in aggregate.
dferdo_04 13 Apr, 2017 @ 3:59am
Does this work with the Rush Hour Mod?
gravage 28 Mar, 2017 @ 5:32am
@CreepyD To address fire issues you might like:
"Fire Spread []":
http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=637901778

Be careful with that one, whole cities have burned down when the settings are too radical. You can adjust to your preference.

"Rain Firefighting":

gravage 28 Mar, 2017 @ 5:31am
@CreepD I was a big fan of this mod also. I now use a pretty excellent mod called "Difficulty Tuning":
http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=519781146

That mod addresses a lot of the features of "Proper Hardness"

For more realistic citizen behavior I use;
"Realistic Population and Consumption Mod v8.2.2:
http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=426163185
"Resident Travel Rebalance v1.1":
http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=541673195
"Citizen Lifecycle Rebalance v2.1":
http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=654707599

To save you from having to spam service bldg you can use "Service Radius Adjuster":
http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=785237088

I don't think I've seen any new mods that state specifically that it has"revamped income system to factor in commute time and happiness" but in my cities my revenue seems to drop if I have a regularly congested traffic.

I hope that helps you.
CreepyD 25 Mar, 2017 @ 4:04pm
I haven't played Skylines in a long time as nobody has come close to what this mod did.
The main things I liked: "workers must go to work, buildings level up sensibly, revamped income system to factor in commute time and happiness".
The way that part of this mod worked was genius and should be in the base game. I just came looking for anyone who's done anything similar to this to see if it's worth playing again, and could only find this. Sad :-(

@ [CC] Clone Cadet
Im not sure hat you ask, but if you look for a mod where you can disable, change intensity, and change the chance of each disaster to happen, there is a great mod for this:
Ragnarok - More disaster controls

@killerbread This mod has been abandoned for a long, long time. I loved this mod too. Now I use "Difficulty Tuning". It's not exactly the same as this mod but it's a great alternative. Here: http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=519781146

knighthawkGP 13 Oct, 2016 @ 3:14am
@zorkman @lsair
Both of you are aware this mod hasn't worked for nearly a year right? If you followed the the comments you would find a version that does sort of work, but I don't recommend you use it either because it will not be updated anymore either.
zorkman 10 Oct, 2016 @ 9:37am
I have the same as you, & it just crashes now.
Thanks Colossal Order, you strike again. Never fix the real issues, & also ensure you cannot go back & play an older version.
Isair 5 Oct, 2016 @ 4:32am
Attempted to use the mod but the "Invalid IL" error occurs every time. Disabled all my other mods and even assets and the error still occurs.
So unless there's some hidden installation step not presented here, Proper Hardness mod doesn't work for me.
benzoll 19 Apr, 2016 @ 5:32pm
@dada1134 - Mod is updated by @knighthawkGP for CS v1.4.
-Install mod:
Downloaded "source code" zip from here:
https://github.com/Knighth/Cities-Skyline-Proper-Hardness/releases/tag/snowfall

Unzipped, and the "DifficultyMod" folder, copied and pasted into game directory:
C: \ Users \ <username> \ AppData \ Local \ Colossal Order \ Cities_Skylines \ Addons \ Mods

-Star game, active mod, and load savegame or new of city: choose options mod, click in bottom "update". Done.
benzoll 19 Apr, 2016 @ 5:15pm
@[NL]LUURT - Surely the worst is increased traffic, CPU frying .. hehe.
@XeoNovaDan - Rare, I'll keep an eye.
dada1134 11 Apr, 2016 @ 4:48am
Could someone fix/update this mod ? It looks awesome but I never tried it.
XeoNovaDan 10 Apr, 2016 @ 4:07am
One thing: I've ran my city with this mod enabled and I'm still only having 240 spaces on trains utilised instead of 560...

Wibbert 10 Apr, 2016 @ 12:38am
My feedback to this mod; Very interesting concept, nice challenge, but the increase it gives in cpu usage slows my game down to much at a city of only 60k pop. This is likely due to the increased number of data that needs to be processed as a result of the increased traffic and the new wealth level stat that requires a lot of calculations.

My solution would be this; rather than making wealth a building specific stat, could you make it a ground effect, similar to pollution. This wouldnt require as much of an increase in the amount of spawning vehicles since, in an area not every building would need to travel to work/shops for the same effect. it also wouldnt be necessary to keep track of every building's wealth values, rather the building every once in a while, similar to how it interacts with pollution, will check to see if the wealth value went up enough for it to level up.
Thx for the great work, I really enjoyed the mod and hope to see more of it in the future.
Cheers
XeoNovaDan 12 Mar, 2016 @ 11:27am
Alright, thanks ^_^ All up and running

I think this mod will really make me consider dirt roads xD
knighthawkGP 11 Mar, 2016 @ 7:49pm
@XeoNovaDan - On windows - Typically C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines\Addons\Mods\DifficultyMod
XeoNovaDan 7 Mar, 2016 @ 9:47am
Alright, cheers :)

One last question: which folder does the .dll go in?
knighthawkGP 7 Mar, 2016 @ 1:21am
@XeoNovaDan - You just need the .dll from the source tree not the source itself.
https://github.com/Knighth/Cities-Skyline-Proper-Hardness/releases/tag/snowfall
XeoNovaDan 5 Mar, 2016 @ 8:53am
Thing is, which code do we grab from Github as there are 3 different codes?
And do we put them in different CS files or in the same?

Sorry if this seems a dumb question, I know very little-to-nothing about coding
Kobold 1 Mar, 2016 @ 8:28am
mod works, u need to download on Github... and close de-Abo on Steamworks
Fresh 29 Feb, 2016 @ 12:36am
Mod doesn't seems to work at all. Tried it on its own and errors as soon as residential buildings begin building.
<fabio> 26 Feb, 2016 @ 8:01pm
Have tested this mod in a new city. Didn't work with realistic population and consumtion mod, as said before. As for the idle commute time, it seems to work with TM:PE! I made a lame busline just to test the patience of my citizens. Unemployment doesn't lead to abandonment (I wish it could), just zero income. Fire is not spreading. I think crime and complains for services are bit overpowered! I put 2 police stations for a bunch of houses and still was a crime wave.
Nice work, great mod and update! I will be seeing this for future playing!
Kobold 26 Feb, 2016 @ 8:35am
anyways this Mod is hard enough already, i still need to save alot of money to build any expensive, i think if the idle time really works i wont even get 2000+ income.

Maybe its good that Idle Time not working, since the mod is not balanced for After Dark.
Kobold 26 Feb, 2016 @ 8:30am
@KnighthawkGP
Thanks for the last update, some Window Text are better readable under 1080p not all Windows are fixed but its alot better now thanks for this :)

Idle Commute Time is still bugged, i testet it today with alot traffic jams and 5min later with max speed i got still 0/100 everywhere :(

Since u said u dont want to maintain the mod, i just want to let you now... maybe u got bored some day in future and maybe fix it^^
Kobold 23 Feb, 2016 @ 3:53pm
@raddaryan
u need to create a new "proper hardness" city... u cant just load a old savegame.

After u disabled the Mod, restart your game and your old savegames works again... if u not overwritted your savegames them with your mod enabled xD
knighthawkGP 23 Feb, 2016 @ 3:07pm
@raddaryan if you're using the original (this actual mod) it doesn't work and hasn't for months.
scroll throught the comments if you want to find a working version.
Raddaryan 23 Feb, 2016 @ 2:24pm
P.S. Of course I tried with mod turned on and off, no difference. Happens on each save, even the one I haven't been touching for some time. Also, when starting a new game, everything works fine right until I build first residential zone. Error ops up every time a building in a zone gets populated.

Raddaryan 23 Feb, 2016 @ 2:08pm
thanks for the cool mod, sounds really nice. Unfortunately it broke my game :( right after save has been loaded the configursation menu popup appered. I chose Hard and left Disasters checked and after confriming, following error appeared:

Part 1:
Invalid IL code in DifficultyMod.WBBResidentialBuildingAI2:SimulationStepActive (uint16,Building
System.InvalidProgramException: Invalid IL code in DifficultyMod.WBBResidentialBuildingAI2:SimulationStepActive (uint16,Building&,Building/Frame&): IL_0020: call 0x0a000211

Pressing ok doen't help, it blocks the game completely. I didn't save my game after first crash, yet the error appears every time now :(:( Can you please, please, please advise? I would hate it if all these hours spent on building my city would go to waste.
Thanks in advance,
Kobold 22 Feb, 2016 @ 8:52am
wooohoo thanks for the update :)
i try it soon
Parasol 21 Feb, 2016 @ 1:34pm
Thanks for your clear explanation (and the update!), I will give it a try when I'll have time to play.
knighthawkGP 21 Feb, 2016 @ 12:47pm
Updated dlls uploaded to github - build04 - fixed the service buildings info text overlapping badly on most buildings. Should be much better now if not entirely fixed, at least it is @ 1080p.
knighthawkGP 21 Feb, 2016 @ 11:38am
@Parasol - Basically if you have bad traffic, you should (eventually - it can take some time) see the red bar for idle time grow, the more people that failed to get to their destination per building, the bigger the red-bar value. If it gets to big it starts having an effect on happiness. It only tracks passenger cars though, far as I can tell it doesn't track train\metro\trame traffic jams.
knighthawkGP 21 Feb, 2016 @ 11:29am
@Benzoll - I understand. I don't want to publish it though because I like I said, I'm not going to be maintaining it, I don't even use the mod - like ever, except to compile and test it for you guys. I was really just trying to throw people a bone after after-dark for a bit so they could migrate to maybe another hardness mod or find someone to maintain it other than me. If someone want's to publish my forked version for easier installation, feel free, I'm just not going to do it.
@Kobold - Also if no real traffic problems then Idle time should always be zero (good thing).
