@Darkmask Lasers do not go on forever - beams attentuate and lose cohesion, causing low amplitude and signal loss.

Space Engineers bugs out after 2^31 meters, so your antenna for all intents and purposes is infinite. If you were outside of the antenna range, you would be outside of the playable game area by a factor of 200.

Can't get this to work properly. Occasionally you get a connection but then it cycles back and forth between connected and connecting. If you get objects to show up on HUD and stand in antenna range then you can see that it is connecting to remote LAs but then disconnecting and restarting.

Does this still function correctly for anyone? i have it at the top of my load list but if the block i think is the correct block its just a small dark grey cube, i really like the idea of interplanetary comm links, but it is impossible to do that with the vanilla. -Please Help-

I was hoping that something like this would exist. You just made interplanetary communication alot easier and cheaper. Thank you so much. (PS: the laser antenna originally should have unlimited range since lasers can go on forever with ever fading. This is mostly due to their single wavelenght and that fact they can only go in 1 diretion PERIOD.)

I finally got it to work! :)

If anyone else runs into the issue I did, what fixed it for me was moving this mod to the top of the list of loaded mods. I don't know why but this mod has to load before others to function correctly it seems.

I cannot get this mod to work. Has a recent patch broken this mod? I have tried this version, and the no LOS version with the same results. The laser antenna range does not increase past the default 40km.

I tried setting up 2 laser antennas at 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100km. The only set up that connected was the 40km setup.

I double checked that the mod was installed, but to no avail as there was no change. Is there any mods that conflict with this one? I do have about 30 other mods installed but none that change laser antenna except this one.

Can anyone please help me find a solution as 40km laser antenna is useless IMO.

Hm, the beacon used to be infinite. Can that not somehow be restored?

@Leanardoe I'm affraid not. The max distance value for beacons is not stored in the config file like it is for the antenna. Besides that I'm pretty sure the objects beacon would quit working anyway when it gets too far away and gets unloaded.

With the range that it had, communicating at long distances had a huge chance of something getting in the way and blocking the signal. No-LOS makes it so things like astroids dont get in the way, so no worries when communicating with far away ships! :steamhappy:

It was nice mod that just enchansed the possible communication range and now it became something unrealistic

So yeah now objects can't break LOS but the antennas still have to be facing each other.

Should be no-los now. I just uploaded it and haven't tested it yet. Does sorta make sense to have it be no-los with the huge distances that we are dealing with nowadays.

is this mod no-los yet? Im looking for an antenna mod I can use for drones without having to worry about ever losing connection due to range issues or something getting in the way.

Yes you still have to worry about line-of-sight with this mod installed. I wonder if it would be possible to mod the normal antenna like this though. That one would be no los. Could be that someone has already done this???

This simple mod is still one of my favorites. Without it, laser antennas are kind of weak-sauce.

@King David this mod does not create a new item. It only modifies the properties of the laser antenna that the devs added.

King David is a child that can't read when I told him that my mod (modded version of this one) only changed the ranges of the antennas. And he also did NOT read the description for this one.

To repeat what you said above:

"This mod does one simple thing. It will modify the max range of both the large and small Laser Antennas and change them both to 1000000000000m. This makes the range essentially infinite so you can do more cool stuff."

Thanks. The name of the file is 403207215.sbm. If you use 7zip then most times you don't have to change the name of the file in order to extract it.

For anyone who wants a different range on this thing here's how you can mod the mod: Find the .sbm file for the mod and copy it somewhere. Rename the.sbm to .zip and extract it to a folder. Open the folder's Data/CubeBlocks.sbc file in Notepad (or some text editor) and change the two occurances of 1000000000000 to whatever number you wish (first occurance is the large antenna and the second one is the small I beleive). Save the file and copy the entire .zip extracted folder over to your mods directory and you will now see a modified version of the mod on your list as well as the original. You can even rename the folder and it'll rename your version of the mod.

Question: are there any plans to implement a realistic time delay? -- i.e., would it take a full second for the laser to travel 386,000 kilometers, and another second to bounce back?

would i be possible to get a version of this mod that just makes the range of the laser antennas 2x the range of the same sized regular antenna (large 100,000km, small 10,000km) (in atmosphere the range of a laser is very limited but in space it is "nearly" unlimited) then we can set up a more realistic antenna system the new version would also need to include a new small antenna (just use the large block image scaled down to be the same 1x1x2 small block image)

Also.... is it silly of me to think that, because on a large ship the laser antenna is 1x1x2, that on a small ship it should also be 1x1x2? Right now, the small ship one just looks like a barely scaled down ball on a cut-off rotor pad.... I don't see how the size difference would matter that much (especially when the range for the small ship one was cut by a large amount). Is this crazy, or a good idea?

Could you perhaps make another one where range for large ships was like... hm... 50,000m? Does that seem overly large and 'unrealistic', considering it's using a laser? And then for small ships, it could be like 10,000m?
