It's clear you're very creative and have the sense of lateral thinking it takes to design weapons for pyro but I mean it in the kindest sense I may that a theme based on improv weapons feels redundant for him. Hell, I feel bad criticizing since the whole of this set is so well made that I'd really not be upset in the slightest to see it added.

Oh yeah, I guess one of the main reasons I bring it up is that it takes a lot of talent and creativity to make alternate flamethrowers since unlike a lot of the other TF2 weapons there's no real-world counterparts to base around since Valve would just integrate one of the few real-world flamethrowers by now had they wanted it. Pretty much all of them are some awkward jigsaw of pre-existing items slapped together and this here is one of the most creative setups I've seen in a long time, and I've been around since the days an official alternate weapon was slapping a piece of metal onto the flamethrower or painting some stock weapons black so I guess ultimately I just hope that regardless of whether or not this gets in that you work with another theme.

@Dumpus XIV, ah, i see what you mean now. i don't think there's much wiggle room for "themes" for the pyro though. i mean with the demoman he can be a hip hop guy, pirate, knight, and many other things and be suitable. with the pyro no such pre-existing themes exist so there's always the chance that i'll look like i'm shoehorning a theme into the game. the only pre-existing one with the pyro is that he presumably makes his own weapons. i found it to be a tough balance so i'm not surprised if some people thought it was too much while others thought it isn't enough. it's all good, i take all constructive criticism :KSmiley:

I meant more in terms of redundancy since we've already got two flamethrowers designed after the concept of throwing everyday items together into an aparattus which belches hellfire, the latter of which got in for following a more specific theme. This whole set of yours is great and I'd be really happy to see it included but I just feel that if this gets in it'd be best that any "randomly assembled" flamethrowers, at least for a time, have some other overarching theme.
Also, my petty whining aside, the showerhead nozzle, spatula trigger and oven wire jammed into a flashlight port is brilliant, yo.

@Dumpus XIV, and that is exactly the point. all the newer weapons are purpose-made, for example the phlog, the third degree, the scorch shot, and arguably the rainblower. it is the same for other classes as well, base jumper, loose cannon, the classic, etc, with only a few exceptions like the beggar's bazooka and tide turner. i liked it better with the style of the original ones and wanted to bring it back.

but another hurdle that you have not mentioned yet is: how to contain the necessary pressure? the fumes won't go far if the container isn't pressurized, but if the container was pressurized then the joint between the hose and gas jug may not be secure enough because it is merely composed of a towel tightly wrapped with tape, so half the gasoline would probably drip from there. the answer to that would really be "tf2 physics" as you say.

i initially wanted to do something about that, but decided to leave it the way it is because, 1, it looks nice aesthetically (a rubber seal would work better but not as easily distinguished at a glace visually, you look at the current seal and you can tell right away it's some fabric + tape, i felt like this was more important on such a minute functional problem) and 2, it still made more sense than the degreaser igniting things using the contents of a fire extinguisher, so i figured it fits the game just fine lol.

here is an interesting tidbit that may not be common knowledge: it is not the gasoline liquid that ignites, but its fumes. in addition, iirc gasoline evaporates easier than plain water. add that property to the effects of the showerhead, which ejects the gasoline liquid in the form of droplets as opposed to a continuous stream, increasing the surface area of the airborne liquid, increasing the amount of gasoline in contact with open air, which further speeds up evaporation, and you have lots of gasoline fumes. to even further enhance the effect, an airbrush type of device can be used instead of the showerhead, those things atomize the droplets, meaning there are more yet smaller droplets which can increase the surface area even further than a showerhead can ever hope to do.

Stupid question time:

How would this flamethrower actually work IRL? So there's a showerhead that sprays gasoline/napalm/some flammable substance onto a piece of heated metal. Assuming the metal catches it on fire, it'll just drip off.

Then again, TF2 physics.
