Only if you choose to not join the galactic community. Everyone who joins GalCom still gets to establish contact with each other, but the mod now also delays when GalCom is formed.

And I just noticed I forgot to update the mod description.

Is there any way to stop contact being forced, by other empires establishing the Galactic Community?

Updated the mod. It now only overwrites the GalCom formation event, as MrFunEGUY suggested.

The mod should work fine with the 3.8 patch for Stellaris. I'll still update it when I find the time.

You can individually overwrite events so that you don't have to overwrite the whole file, which is what you should do so that you dont have to update the file when PDX updates events you dont alter, and for compatibility with other mods.

- Forming the galactic community now requires one of the following:
1. A non-genocidal normal empire has established communications with 70% of empires in the galaxy and 100 years have passed since the start of the game.
2. A non-genocidal normal empire has established communications with 90% of empires in the galaxy.

It affects everyone equally, so the AI will also need more time to make first contact with you.

does this also force it to take longer for AI contacting us on their own, or does this only effect the player's effort in making first contact?

Oh thank you for the pointer! Not sure what additional requirements I should add, yet. Maybe midgame year or something. Default is 100 years, maybe too soon still.

It's moddable. Look in the event folder and open galactic_community_events.txt. The very first event specifies a condition for creation as "perc_communications_with_playable >= 0.7".

A mod could increase that number or add additional requirements.

Is the community threshold modable or hard coded?

I'm just interested because I tried making a mod like this back when it was all special project based, and I kept having weird experiences of suddenly being in contact with other empires. I think it was that caravaneers or enclaves were communications spreading, or something like that. I'm hoping that behaviour is eliminated on newer versions but I havent had a chance to playtest!

Galactic community still works the same way. You'll get contact with all the members. However, it takes a little bit longer to form because the requirement IIRC is for an empire to achieve contact with 70% of the galaxy.

Heya, first off - love the look of the mod! First contact is a really big deal to me so I think this is one of the best things on the whole workshop. I do have a question though, and that's how the galactic community works on playthroughs with this mod?

I'm asking because last night I saw this thread on the official suggestions forum:

I just wanted to say big thanks for this mod I was scouring the workshop for a mod just like this! annoying asf when your a couple months in and get blown up with greetings from every alien empire always felt first contact should be mysterious, slow and take very long to build up too

Changed how the mod works from increasing time between rolls to doubling the number of rolls required. This way not only is the time to establish first contact longer, but the chance to get first contact events is also increased.

It doesn't seem slower to me, relative to when I played 2.6/2.7 (I skipped 2.8). In fact it seems a bit faster, even using your mod. I think ideally once a normal empire establishes contact with X% of the empires, maybe 70%, instead of forming right away, a timer of 10 years should start, and then the Galactic Community forms. But... shrugs. If you think it's fine the way vanilla works, then you're not going to make that mod.

The GC gets formed after a normal empire establishes contact with 70% of the empires in the galaxy. A normal empire in this case is an empire that is not Gestalt or a Fanatic Purifier.

As a result slowing down first contact should also slow down the formation of the GC.

Not super related to this mod, but ever since the Federations DLC came out, it has bothered me how quickly the Galactic Community gets established.

I've usually only explored about 1/4 to 1/3 of the galaxy and met a few species, even though I explore obsessively, having 8-10 Science Ships out on Auto-Expore (usually I use a mod that enables AE from gamestart).

Can you please look into making a mod that somehow delays the creation of the Galactic Community? I have a hunch I might not be the only person who finds it annoying that it emerges so quickly, so early.

No, I doubled the roll time of the AI too. AI empires now need 100 days instead of 50 to make a roll.

I think this has an unintented effect of letting you never finish the quest, since the other empire will always contact you first, since they still only use 30 days, or something.

Yes. You can add it at any point during a savegame and it should work. Though naturally you won't see much of an effect if you're already finished with contacting most of the galaxy.
