The amc gremilin was a cheep american car for the oil crisis. amc did not make any money on the car, bc how cheep it was. yes, it looks like a shoe or a wedge. it was more for luggage.

FJwarner, it was (by some) considered "ugly" because it was different. Don't forget hatchbacks were pretty rare and therefore weird and strange to any American motorist at the time.

Personally I don't see why people called it ugly, to me it looks perfectly fine.

jshmccanna, to be clear I never said it was bad. The Gremlin was (as I remember) a pretty popular car, it probably single handedly kept AMC viable throughout the 70s. However, it did suffer from the same problems that most/all AMC cars did at the time they were cheap and fell apart quickly, quicker then most cars at the time did. Anyone who says it was a "good" car either took good care of it or is being mildly nostalgic.

i really dont get why the gremlin is bad when its just a hatchback hornet, with that logic the hornet should be bad as well

Yeah, I don't suggest going over 95 MPH as it will probably end in disaster.

Was able to get the little thing to hit 101, ran out of road, it MIGHT be capable of 105. Great little thing to drive, thought it is a little sensitive with the steering.

While the real car was a hot mess, this one is awesome! Great work, and thanks for sharing!
