@Grey Wolf Jack do you mind if I add you to discuss this further? I've made more progress getting NPCs to use the new "spears", but they use them in their left hands. I was hoping they'd use them with shields. But not sure if that's possible or how to fix this issue.

I'm not sure how to do that as not much of a scripter. But I'm having trouble getting NPCs to use suck spears, even setting them to mage class they just switch to fists at close range. Then there's the issue of range (doesn't seem to change) and horseback. But aside from minor kinks I love it.

I haven't modded in a while, but for your javelin idea; since setting the projectile to "can be picked up" seems to be bugged, maybe you can script it so upon activation that object deletes itself as well as adds another javelin into your inventory?

This is arguably genious, I've tinkered with a similar concept, but no sucess, this however looks like the solution to one of my major problems. That being said I do have a javelin project in the works that uses a similar idea, but the javelin projectile once on the ground can be "picked up", but picking those up causes CTD, not sure if that can be fixed.

Do you think you can make a simple spear the same way you did the trident?

The only reason it was a trident is because I had this idea of how to make spears works, but didn't know how to model at the time. One of my friends however had recently made a trident mod, and I helped him make it work more like a spear.

But I regret to inform you I quit modding Skyrim so I can persue a video game making career.

Ooh, and spears would get their own skill tree called "Lancer". Man I'd love to see that.

In the first place this is how spears and lances (although I haven't seen good lance mods yet) should be made in the game. It doesn't take a scientist but I immediately knew that, gameplay mechanics wise, you could take the thrusting anims from the staves in the game, make a spear/lance weapon model, decrease their range appropriately, and set their damage similar to contemporary melee weapons in the game. I guess the reason modders use the one handed weapon skill for their spears is that it may be easier, but I never modded so I don't know. Gameplay wise, I think spears would have made a really interesting variety choice of weapon where their main advantage over the other swords and axes would be the extra range, plus a damage compromise between one-handed and two-handed weapons. Then again, I don't mod so I don't wanna sound like an ass.

is it possible to make a thrusting/stab attack with swords? I know there are power thrust mods out there but I want to have the default attack be a stab like this spear

@LordDragoBlade Unless the trident peirces your heart, skull, and liver first, as those are some big "little" blades that the trident has.

The weapon is good looking and powerful but the animation... Do different attack moves so its great. And its fun to look at when enemies fly backwards when they die
