@Araiguma well I'm Brazilian as well and I prefer the modern flag (and I dislike the royal family so that's extra negative points imo lol)
Araiguma Kishi Yūro Akiba 11 May @ 12:15am
I'm sorry but as a Brazilian I prefer the royal flag much more. It's so much more beautiful
And as SJW said it's the one from the time of Pedro II
I hope he does not change it cause I find the modern Brazilian flag very ugly and the only way that I can play as Brazil is with this mod
Juan D'Usami 6 Feb @ 7:12pm
@Da SJW but that symbol alone is not that recognizable.
Da SJW 27 Jan @ 7:21am
@Juan D'Usami I think the change to the icon is to reflect that you're NOT playing as modern Brazil, but as the historical Brazlian Empire that Pedro II led

这个mod用更准确的历史变体取代了许多文明和城邦图标,同时与主要的BCI mod相比,保留了更香草的感觉。一些香草图标经过调整或大胆设计,看起来更清新。

Why change Brazil's icon? The official one was way more recognizable, especially if you never played Civ 5 (which I assume is where you got the one in this mod from/based it on)
Hestia 23 Sep, 2023 @ 5:43pm
Fantastic.

Is there a way to swap certain icons from the base mod to the lite one?, I love all the lite icons but Babylon's default icon is a bit too silly for me and I prefer the base mod's version of Babylon's icon.

Total War Attila somewhat solves the religious aspect by showing Western Roman Empire with an eagle on red background - not Christian but still used by Romans centuries after their conversion to Christianity - and Eastern Roman Empire with a two-headed eagle on purple background - most likely not even Roman in origin but adopted by Romans as hereditary archaic Asian (Trojan?) symbol of state power, most likely without Romans even knowing the exact meaning Trojans/Hittites intended behind the picture

on the other hand Jadwiga literally talks about Lord God to the player even if her civilisation doesn't know the concept of a deity yet so I guess concerning yourself with the principle of only using religion-independent iconography is useless because the leaders ruin the immersion themselves as soon as they start talking, so yeah. Eagle of Zeus is indeed pretty much the Ancient Greek equivalent of the pigeon in Christianity or the crescent in Carthaginian culture but it's probably the only cultural image both Athens and Sparta could be easily associated with

This is indeed a problem with those, as sometimes it's extremely tough to separate a historical pre-modern civ from their faith system or mythology - at least for states that didn't have robust familial or secular state heraldry to draw inspiration from.

-non-Zoroastrian symbol for ancient Persia? You end up with non-descript scimitars in Civ 4/5.
-symbols of Arabia? most cool looking calligraphy and architectural symbols are Islamic.
-'barbarian' civs? most material artifacts are invariably related to their myths and deities.

(wouldn't the Eagle of Zeus *technically* be a religious symbol too? ;p it's a great idea though!)

It's a bit of a swamp to try and avoid religious symbolism when choosing symbols for civs, particularly when the object is to also keep them immediately recognizable and easily associable with the civ in question. Nonetheless it could be a very interesting deep dive to try and make such a neutral, leader-appropriate take on civ icons some day.

shit, then probably Eagle of Zeus for Greeks

P. S. Victoria or Providentia for Trajan and Crown of Isis for Cleopatra then

P. P. S. also there's the problem with many if not most icons being pretty much direct references to the faction's real life religion - seeing Buddhist 'Byzantium' (whole other topic - this entire civ should've been just a new leader for Rome really) with the Christogram as its icon is so odd
janboruta  [author] 13 Apr, 2021 @ 2:59pm
Sadly last time I tried separating them, both Greeces still used the same icon. The system is specified on a per-civ basis, not per-leader. It would work for civs that only have one 'official' leader of course.

I might give it a stab in the future, but for the time being my modding for VI is complete unless problems show up.

next up: change all colours and icons to leader-accurate ones e. g. club on crimson background for Gorgo, owl on white background for Pericles, Mitsuuroko on blue background for Tokimune etc. (not sure blue Hojo is authentic though)

Update 28-03-2021:
- new icon for Vietnam
- tweaked size and spacing of shields in Portugal's icon
- slightly tweaked Mogadishu icon
Vortex 27 Mar, 2021 @ 10:49am
@janboruta Portugal's icon needs some serious improvement, hope you come back to update this.
Stoic 27 Feb, 2021 @ 1:51pm
The lite version is better.
janboruta  [author] 21 Nov, 2020 @ 5:19pm
@Vortex You can use the full version of the mod where Babylon is changed. https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=876938593

I personally like the vanilla icon quite a lot and wanted to keep it in the lite version.
Vortex 21 Nov, 2020 @ 11:15am
Thank you so much for updating this @janboruta, but I think Babylon's Civ Icon could be improved upon as well, thank you kindly again.
janboruta  [author] 21 Nov, 2020 @ 10:08am
Update 21-11-2020:
- new icons for city-states: Anshan, Nalanda, Wolin
- new icon for Ayutthaya city-state from Sukritact's Siam
Royal Raven 21 Nov, 2020 @ 8:50am
@Vortex, That question can be answered by looking in the "Change Notes" tab.
Vortex 21 Nov, 2020 @ 8:47am
Has this been updated for the Babylon pack yet?
Da SJW 20 Nov, 2020 @ 5:49pm
Anshan has the same icon as Babylon
The Color of Trust 7 Nov, 2020 @ 8:21am
If I wanted to change India's icon to the Civ V version, what files would I need to modify?
janboruta  [author] 3 Oct, 2020 @ 10:37am
Thank you! The Lite version is my preference now as well. I'll keep both updated regardless. :)
Luxis 3 Oct, 2020 @ 10:34am
Thanks for this! This looks great! Honestly I was a little overwhelmed by all the lions and eagles in the other version.
janboruta  [author] 25 Sep, 2020 @ 6:31am
Update 25-09-2020:
- new icons for Gaul (Sukritact's Vercingetorix) and Venice city-state
- beefed up icon for Byzantium
janboruta  [author] 5 Aug, 2020 @ 2:43am
Thanks and I hear you! Mexico and Jerusalem alongside many others are just my personal preferences, but with the Cree, the problem seems to be that the vanilla symbol is more reflective of the art of Pacific Northwest tribes rather than more eastern Cree.
jemalomlcs 5 Aug, 2020 @ 2:00am
I actually liked Mexico City's, Jerusalem's and the Cree's Icon but overall they're great!
Royal Raven 4 Aug, 2020 @ 6:36am
Thank you for lite version, I have been waiting for this. Now we can tell the Canadians to use this one, lol.
Mudkip1001 3 Aug, 2020 @ 7:27pm
Cool, 10/10 Freshness :cozyspaceengineersc:
