to me it made more sence when the mercs hoarded gold, i treated the leader's gold as the band's total wealth.

I often have: ringleader band accumulated 500-2000 gold

It doesn't work for me when the mercenary has a shit-ton of gold. It works in the hundreds, but when it gets to the thousands I can click the option but nothing happens.
