Awesome, just make sure to keep moving forward. Sometimes we get stuck on stuff that we're very proud of, but you should always keep making new content too! Just think of everything you make as practice.

No, leave the bone name the same (each character model has a bone named "weapon_bone" which is oritented in a specific way that allows them to hold the model correctly).

Well the best way to do it is to decompile a weapon that is similar to one you want to make (the bone structure from this decompiled model is what you'll use rather than the player model's bones). And don't use $staticprop in your QC since it isn't a static prop.

Well you can't compile weapons with the importer valve has in-game. You'll have to compile them manually using something like GUIstudioMDL. But the process is basically the same (make the model > assign the bones > export).
