A new age is dawning...
Yeah, I get what you mean. Our ability to create is sadly limited by the software.
If I remember correctly, he put a lot of detail into each building. If it was anything like what I ran into, it might have just been he started running into hammer editor reaching its limits. There is only a certain number of detail objects you can place such as decals. Hammer was only meant to make small 1st person shooter maps, Big City only pulls it off because it cuts almost all the detail work.
Personally I quit working in hammer editor so I can work with editors that offer much more freedom and optimization for detailed worlds.
You guessed it.
Well I appreciate the enthusiasm, but with a release date of May 8, 2013 I can assure you I have moved on to a bunch of other projects since then lol.
@Carlos the Nazi
I see I have some other complaints about it too, it will take me some time, but I may look into it. This project is ages old lol.
thank you
No, what you are talking about is a "3D Skybox" which if you look at the ends of the map or fly out of the actual level, you will notice that there isn't this mini-level above or below the map, meaning there isn't a 3D skybox being projected.
If it's still not exactly what you are looking for, there are other videos, if you search "hammer editor how to make a road" in youtube, will find videos that will show you how to do it too in a similar, if not the same way.
I've been looking for a road pack for atleaste all week, but I can't seem to find any. Could you post one or show me where you got your roads from? THANKS if you do!
I believe they are HL2 standard props, they should be some sort of skybox model, so try seaching skybox in the garrys mod spawn menu filter.
Do not worry, I can get Windows for free because I am student and I have a DreamSpark access. :-)
The reason for them disappering is the sides can't touch the edge of the end, they have to be atleast one of the tiniest grid space away form the end of the map, also it can't be to high up, or else the engine won't render it once you get to a certain distance away from the skybox. If you need help with mapping my website will help you, http://smashballsx88.wix.com/hammer-editor-domain . It sounds like you have a good rig, but your OS is just aweful, buy an OS disk for windows 8, which can be about $200 USD.
