It's hard to say and I've made the mistake of giving myself deadlines so many times before that I don't want to make a concrete guess until it's close to being done. For context, I'm a 29 year old with a full time job going to school AND I've just gotten engaged earlier this year. Time really isn't something I have a ton of these days so it's absolutely just a passion project at this point to continue working on this. To add to this, I have horrific ADHD and keeping on one thing can be a struggle.

It could be next year, it could be two years, I have no idea pretty much. When it's done, it's done.
regunkyle 1 Oct @ 2:54pm
so when so you think this update will release?
Grixis  [author] 25 Sep @ 6:04am
@Blaze, that's intentional. I mean, you have a chance at losing any time you gamble so losing by having a rocket fall at your feet or having two of your rockets collide with each other in your face is considered losing with this weapoon, though I definitely think the weapon could use a rebalance in how fast it fires and the odds of it firing a dud.
BlazeTheCatMan 17 Sep @ 8:26pm
i think the gambler needs a patch as some rockets will fail and fall out and blow you up!

Holy shit a remake?? I thought this mod was gone and was trying to find it, I had forgotten the name but finally found it in my mod list

So much nostalgia, and still much cooler weapons than most packs now
Grixis  [author] 11 Aug @ 9:08am
Good news at least on weapons, I'm not removing anything. Worst that'll happen is some weapons will be changed significantly but I'm doing my best to retain original functions. Rocket Rifle for example, it's going to primarily be an assault rifle now but the rocket function will stay on as an underslung launcher. You can see some progress on my profile in my screenshots. Haven't touched it in a minute just to keep myself from burning out and because I've had other things going on but it's going to be an on-off development cycle.

YO I LOVED THIS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THERE'S A REMAKE IN THE MAKING KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

Glad this addon is getting a remaster in the future, will miss some of the weapons that won’t be included in it but it will be worth the wait

@Grixis The only major bug complaint I have is that when you pick up an item while holding certain guns (The Turbo Lover for example) and drop it, it will automatically switch to another weapon. It also doesn't seem to work properly with the "Last Weapon used" button bind. That's the only real issue I've noticed though.

Quick update for anyone that checks this. Work’s going swell so far, mostly on the modeling end. A few weapons have been given pretty solid redesigns and I’ve got a roadmap in development now that’ll help keep progress on track. I still can’t say how long this will take nor do I want to since doing that adds months onto the expected timetable, but we’re doing pretty good overall.

I think everyone will like how some of the redesigns and overhauls will look. Barring a few weapons that are unsalvageable in their current state (Turbo Lover, the Greaser, The Eleventh Hour, etc.), every weapon will be redone in a way that doesn’t damage their core aesthetic identity.

If you haven’t already PLEASE take the poll below this post, it’ll really help give me ideas on how to continue with the remaster. Share it around if you know anyone that has used the toybox before!

Here's a poll on what exactly you guys would want to see changed in the original and what you want included in the remaster. Please share your thoughts, it'll really give me an idea of what our scope of work will be for the coming updates.

I really wanna say, I genuinely appreciate all of the kind words everyone’s been dropping recently. Honestly mind blowing to think we made something that invokes youthful nostalgia in some people. Really makes me want to make a remaster pack into a reality. Keep an eye out for a poll I’m going to post soon, I’d really like input on what the remaster should do differently from the existing pack.

Full disclosure that it’d be a while before a remaster drops at all since I’m 29 and work full time, but it’s got a non-zero chance of happening now compared to the zero it was at a month ago.
_TOXIC_MAN_ 9 Jan @ 2:03am
So I ve decided to look at the page of a decade old addon i've witnesed develop back in the day and see some fresh news on the possible update. Just when I turned it on to toy around with. Very surreal experience. Good luck with the update, it was one of my favorite gun packs back in the day just for that GMODian SWEP aesthetic.
Grixis  [author] 8 Jan @ 11:55am
Hmmm. Maybe I could just balance change this one and add c_hands and then all of the functionality changes and model updates would be on the separate remaster pack? Idk, i’ll set up a google poll or something later.
The Lion(noaudio) 5 Jan @ 5:44pm
honestly if you were too take my opinion with a grain of salt, you should just like make a new weapon pack like Spastiks Toybox 2
The Lion(noaudio) 5 Jan @ 5:33pm
"For those that are subbed to this, how drastic would be too drastic as far as changes go?"

Maybe just maintain at best, mods a decade old bro and personally, I think its at the golden ration as is, anymore, anyless you'll tip it off from were it stands.
Bad Dreems 3 Jan @ 5:29pm
By the way I know it's probably like necroing at this point, but is there any room for more help?
Just about the only things I know how to do are making funky models and funky sweps.
Bad Dreems 3 Jan @ 5:24pm
Oh man, I hate that I only just discovered these, these are so cool!
I love SCK "makeshift / junk" weapons so much.
Penoltinum 1 Jan @ 10:00pm
Good luck Spastik! I am dying to see what you have in store :D
Grixis  [author] 1 Jan @ 5:47pm
I get the concern about "modernizing" the weapons. The last thing I'd want to do is do the exact thing I hated back then and completely butcher them. If anything, the goal would be trying to just clean up the look, stick with what the original intent was and add more detail. Imagine the redesigns for the Rainmaker and Fire Hazard and then just apply that across the board wherever it makes sense. The only ones that I think would see the absolute most drastic, unrecognizable changes are ones that are ugly as sin like the nailgun, especially considering that I made a redesign for it years ago and just never applied it.

Big agree on getting rid of viewpunch though, that's high up on the list. You pretty much nailed what I'd like to do for a reupload too, this one will still exist and just be remade as the legacy option with the balance, QoL, and c_hand changes. All still a maybe right now, gotta see how far into this I could get.
Penoltinum 1 Jan @ 12:40pm
Regarding your redesigns, I have mixed feelings about this.
On one hand, it would be cool for this addon to be "modernized" and have different animations for some weapons, as well as different "viewmodels".
On the other hand, it would probably ruin the whole HL2 SCK nostalgia fiesta.
I agree with GeometryWarrior.
What you could is this :
Update this addon with fixes (god, if you could remove the recoil viewpunch, it would be amazing), small tweaks and c_hands. Rename the weapon's tab to include the "legacy" tag.
Then, use this updated addon as a base to remaster, add or remove whatever you see fit. That way you can have the best of both worlds, despite maybe requiring a little more work for that.
Grixis  [author] 31 Dec, 2024 @ 2:13pm
After spending a good amount of today looking through how we left this thing and what some of these models look like, there's a ton I want to redo. Probably some amount of model touchup for everything involved here at the minimum.

Cool thing is C_hands is actually easy since I'm using a fork of SCK that doesn't eat my renders now so if I really have the time, I could at least move this addon over to c_hands as a final update. Everything else would probably be on a new addon entirely which would like to this as a legacy pack.
GeometryWarrior 31 Dec, 2024 @ 1:22pm
For that problem I'd propose maybe you should update this addon with the remastered version (of course again incase you ever find time to doing it, it's absolutely fine if you have other priorities), but release another addon which will be the legacy version incase people still prefer the legacy version. That way people who are subbed to this addon and are not updated with the workshop page will still see the update and if they still prefer or want the original they can check the workshop page and be directed to the legacy version.

if you find spare time to put in that much effort into a remaster of this addon, I would absolutely be looking forward to it! ^_^
GeometryWarrior 31 Dec, 2024 @ 1:21pm
If it's a re-design for a handful of weapons as well as a make-over to another batch of weapons I'd say that's reaaally drastic. Although even then I'm pretty indifferent about it, I wouldn't mind it infact I'd be very interested to see it but that's just me personally. Though I imagine that there will still be people that do still want or miss the original for nostalgia sake or just prefer the original for other reasons.
Grixis  [author] 31 Dec, 2024 @ 6:59am
For those that are subbed to this, how drastic would be too drastic as far as changes go?

I ask because there are some changes I would want to make that are really big. Biggest ones would be a 100% redesign of every weapon in the Testosterone Update and most of the Survival Update and removal of some of the more redundant weapons, other changes include using the CSS weapon animations since they pretty much come pre-packaged with Gmod now iirc and adding iron sights to some of the weapons.
Grixis  [author] 30 Dec, 2024 @ 5:14am
@Penoltinum and @GeometryWarrior I appreciate the kind words and input, I'm glad to know that something I was involved in has brought so much joy to others in enough of a way to become nostalgic. I'm absolutely toying with the idea of giving this thing another update. Can't say for certain I'd do anything for it SOON, got a lot of projects with my existing hobbies that I'm focusing on now while I'm in between semesters, but it's definitely something I'm open to trying.

Realistically, I'd probably be giving everything a makeover in some fashion, like down to the names for some weapons (looking at the testosterone update in its entirety). Balance changes, model fixes, c_model porting, less spaghetti code, probably a proper base to go along with everything. Not sure if I'd go as far as doing the Science update since that thing was a behemoth of an update even after it was split in half but we'll see.
GeometryWarrior 27 Dec, 2024 @ 1:23pm
Just remembered this addon and came over to look at the comments; I'm surprised you're even thinking of coming back to this addon just to remaster it for other people to enjoy and play with, even though you don't really play GMOD anymore as well as balancing life. I admire your dedication.

I used to play with this addon so much when I was younger, and over time with more modern addons coming out I eventually uninstalled this and forgot about it, a remaster would be insane.

Though of course like what @Penoltinum said; entirely up to you whether or not if you want to come back to this haha. It's going to be a lot of work remastering it and especially considering this pack has over 50+ weapons..
Penoltinum 27 Dec, 2024 @ 12:11pm
It would be cool to have a "remastered" update and build a video about it instead of making a new addon (unless you want to keep this one as a legacy), with fixes, the science update, new small tweaks to the already existing content and probably if you could improve the current models. I am not asking for realism, but for "less-goofy" models.
Then again, it is your choice. I still use this addon from time to time because it is too fun!
Grixis  [author] 26 Dec, 2024 @ 4:11am
@Penoltinum Appreciate it. Don't know if I ever will touch this again or not and idk if it would be through this one or through a brand new addon to drum up hype but I keep thinking about it from time to time. I wouldn't mind giving it a shot some time when I'm ready.
Penoltinum 16 Dec, 2024 @ 12:38am
Looking forward to see what the future awaits. It would be awesome to see this addon come back with modern additions!

If you think you can be more consistent in making a modpack for a 20+ year old game while trying to juggle schooling, work, having a life, and having a less-than-stellar home life, be my guest and demonstrate

"Bimonthly Updates"
Grixis  [author] 18 Sep, 2024 @ 5:38am
Not a bad idea, it'd preserve this one but allow the whole thing to go back onto the front page.
ALE199 17 Sep, 2024 @ 4:57am
If I can suggest, maybe do it as a remastered pack and keep this one as legacy pack
Grixis  [author] 9 Sep, 2024 @ 5:22am
Really has been over a decade since we put this up, huh? Low key, even though I don't really play GMod anymore, I almost want to rerelease this with some fixes and updates.

Don't think I'd be putting out any of the cool shit we had planned since I'm a full time worker, college student, significant other, and potato brain now and have no clue what I'm doing with Lua anymore but I would like to balance some shit and port everything over to c_models instead of the godawful v_model system I was so adamant about using.

Hell, maybe I'd rework some models and names too while I'm at it, a lot of them look like jumbled messes and have dogshit naming conventions.
