Peggy's Cove Lighthouse

Description
One of the most recognizable lighthouses in the world, definitely one of the most photographed. Officially it's called Peggy's Point Lighthouse and it sits on a large, windswept rocky outcropping at the edge of St. Margaret's Bay in Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada. I was there once.

Here it is[www.google.ca] in Street View.

Also it's notable for being a somewhat dangerous tourist attraction - lots and lots of people have been swept from the rocks near the lighthouse into the sea. Many have drowned. There are warning signs, but tourists gotta tourist, right? And this lighthouse gets a lot of tourists.

This is a level 2 unique building with a 3x3 footprint. Cost is 20,000. Unlocks at milestone 3, I think.

I did not decorate the grounds at all, except for placing gathering spots and the lamp. Stats are a modified version of the friendly neighbourhood park, though it requires fewer workers and has a slightly larger entertainment radius. Windswept rocks not included - there are lots on the Workshop. It does require placement next to a road.

Many, many thanks for Ronyx69 for his PropRotating Params mod and script. The lamp, which is a small prop bundled with this asset, rotates and is illuminated at night by its illumination map. So it's a somewhat functional lighthouse. Unfortunately, the animation ceases when the lod model kicks in. Can't do anything about it - just a limitation of the game. Still, it's a neat effect.

That said, if you encounter any problems with the lamp, let me know and I'll investigate. Actually, if you encounter any problems with any of it, I'll see what I can fix. Again, the LODs do not rotate, so when you move back a certain distance from it, it will stop spinning.

You also may want to check out PKMN Trainer Orange's Cape Hatteras Light. He's built a beauty of a lighthouse using this same one weird trick.

Model stats
Main Model for the lighthouse - 870 tris
LOD - 92 Tris

Textures are 512 and 64, respectively, with custom normal, specular, alpha and illumination maps for the main model.

Model for the lamp prop is 36 tris. Lod is identical
Textures are 128, for some reason. Illuminating the lamp requires an illumination map obviously, and there's a specular map as well. The prop and all of its parts are about 150kb. It's not very big at all.

As usual with the stuff I put up on Steam, if you want to screw around with Peggy's Cove Lighthouse yourself, remix it or even reupload it, the source files for it and the lamp can be found here[drive.google.com]. I realized while reading the Wikipedia entry on the lighthouse that I've built it about three-and-a-half metres too tall. I'm also not set on how I've done the lamp room, it's not quite right. But, close enough for jazz.

Thanks for visiting, I hope you enjoy it.

@richard.carhart - The light hasn't worked in some time. Pretty sure I didn't upload it correctly. It won't hurt your game - but if you're using the Loading Screen Mod, you will get a notice that an asset is missing. Hope things are OK over there during all of this craziness! I'm in Ch'town, PEI.

It's always Ontarians who get swept out to sea.

@sam Happy to help! I'm trying to bring a bit of Maritime flavour to the game.

I live in Dartmouth. So neat to see a Nova Scotia landmark in game. Thank you.

I actually got it working, but I just didn't like the way it looked. I was also waiting for Ronyx to post his mod, which he said should be up today sometime. The man does so much, I didn't want to use his code before he posted it here for everyone.

But with the spinning light script, when you move back beyond the range threshold (as it does with spinning props), the light just shuts off and I found it really distracting, moreso than this.

A spinning spotlight might work for something like a small prison tower or some feature lights, like on a casino (with geometry that blocks line of sight when you're further away) - but you need to be able to see a lighthouse light from a distance, and it just didn't fit with the building.

I'll probably play with it some more, but in some other type of asset. Thanks for stopping by and the up!
