Funeral Home

Description
Deathcare in this game has always been a little jarring for me. I'm fine with how it works as a gameplay mechanic - but it really lacks the tact we'd apply to end-of-life situations.

So, this is a crematorium building styled like an old-school family-run funeral home. It's got a little non-denominational chapel in the back for services, etc. A friendly building from which the hearses emerge. No longer will you suffer fleets of death merchants roaming your streets, eager to snatch up your dearly departed nan for the incinerator or to toss into the cold ground.

---

About the building.
It's a little less demanding than the crematorium, all stats involved are lowered slightly. Has five service vehicles and costs 15,000. Upkeep is 500.

It unlocks at milestone 4, which is when the cemetery becomes available. You'll find it in the health/deathcare tab. No dependencies here and no DLC required.

You could probably make an argument that this is a bit of a cheat, since the crematorium doesn't unlock until much later. You could make that argument.

---

About the asset
Main model - 1942 tris
LOD - 99 tris

Textures are 1024x1024 and 128 respectively with normal, specular, illumination and colour maps present on the main model and colour and illumination maps on the LOD.

---

Let me know if you see anything wrong with the asset. I'll try to fix what I can.

And, if you're interested in frigging around with the model itself, redoing the textures etc. Here's[drive.google.com] a link to the items, all the texture and model files, including the Blender ones. It was built in 2.78.

Thank you for making this unlock as early as the cemetery! I always have mixed feelings on reaching that milestone, since I am forced to put down a building that needs to be dealt with later (and cannot be easily moved or bulldozed). Usually I end up using Natural Disasters to collapse the building and having the Disaster Response Unit search for survivors before bulldozing the rubble, but now I'll have a proper solution right away instead of needing to reserve a ton of space for a building with annoying emptying mechanics :')

@Sailor - Man, I've had lots of comments and messages over the years about assets with scales that are off. Truly, some of them are really out of place in some builds. Some of the houses are particularly bad. I kinda just self-taught myself this stuff, With scale I figured I'd use an average door height as the basis for the rest of a build. It's about 6'8" or 205cm. I figured floor height was about 11'-12'.

Problem is, I think what looks right in the game is a bit smaller than what is used in the real world.

Miyagi asked me once to re-do several houses for a build-off for this very reason. Unfortunately things got too busy for it and I didn't. Kinda regret not doing that because he's always making and doing stuff for the community.

Sorry, I just saw the comment and began reflecting a bit. : ) I haven't done anything in a while because of work and other things, but I'm still around.

@graylord wym it is "too out of scale"? you do realize there is different sizes of funeral homes all over the world?

Generally love this, bit it is too out of scale.

First comment in 2021 :lunar2019laughingpig:, still great asset. And far better than usual choice between cementery and crematorium.

I am completely amazed with how much I love this asset. This is so underrated in the workshop. Thank You.

OMG someone who understands you don't go straight from your house to be burned when you die. Your sentiments mirror mine exactly. I like graveyards but for game purposes in a large city they take a ton of space. But I despise crematoriums almost worse just because of realism LOL how have I missed this asset all these years.

@Riley - thanks. It's been a couple of years, but I think when I was putting it together, I was thinking about some of the big funeral homes I have in my town.

It's actually based on this building here [www.google.com].

In retrospect, it doesn't really pump out that many hearses for its size compared to others in the game, you're right.

Eventually, I'll probably do another. Thanks for stopping by. : D
