Units - Mounted Scouts

Description
Mounted Scouts are fast but lightly armed with bows. They will not upgrade into archers.

Scouts remain scouts. They do not turn into archers and keep the scouting promotion tree for advancement. They obtain horses and ranged combat through goodyhut luck when a scout enters and finds an equipment upgrade. Otherwise they may be obtained when Horseback Riding is unlocked. They may be upgraded into Cavalry and become obsolete with combustion.

Mounted scouts are more expensive than chariot archers, but may enter enemy territory for scouting without activating a declaration of war. There are some conditions which may start a war; for example, ending a turn on an enemy capital.

The historical foundation for mounted scouts comes comes from civilizations historically without chariots and from civilizations using small raiding parties. Typically they gathered intelligence or conducted fast raids on lightly or undefended targets.

Created for G&K (tested) and may be usable in Vanilla (untested).

If you wish to adjust combat, ranged combat, cost, moves or range, open the file Mounted Scouts.xml and change the following entries as desired.

Default settings are:
<Combat>4</Combat>
<RangedCombat>7</RangedCombat>
<Cost>75</Cost>
<Moves>4</Moves>
<Range>2</Range>

I have this mod subscribed, and it worked perfectly for a couple of years, but now it is not showing in my mods, do you have a direct download?

For those with Gods and Kings, if you want them to at least be horse archers , go to

{Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\Units - Mounted Scouts (v 2)}

Find the line <UnitArtInfo>ART_DEF_UNIT_HORSEMAN</UnitArtInfo>

change to <UnitArtInfo>ART_DEF_UNIT_U_HUNS_HORSE_ARCHER</UnitArtInfo>

it uses the huns horse archers, so if you play the huns, keep an eye on the icons if you use both.

In that file is the options to change unit statistics, strength-range etc. Its much more enjoyable with the mounted archers.

it is difficult to completely model a new unit guys, give him a chance.

I agree with Akinaba, please change the model so it's a ranged mounted unit instead of a horseman with a spear, and also change it so it can't melee attack as well.

I'm using them so far and they do seem a bit overpowered for early game, I mean, you can get it to move 5 squares without movement penalty by terrain, and attack ranged with extra line of sight, currently using them to support artillery with this extra LoF.

My personal opinion after using it, I would recommend that it's health should be reduced by about 30%, and that it keep as a ranged unit, but change it to 1 square range instead of 2.

Mounted scouts loook like horseman with spears. Ans they do not have animation of a range attack,but strike as they were a regular mountd unit instead. Maybe it will be better simply to use Keashik model for this, or any other ranged mounted unit? Also, they can bothstrike ran attack andmelle attack as well.
