Botmatch Gamemode

Botmatch is a custom versus gamemode for Serious Sam 3: BFE. The rules for botmatch are very similar to regular deathmatch, except now that you also fight computer-controlled bots. The player/♥♥♥ who has the most frags will win the match.

This gamemode comes with custom versions of some of the vanilla versus maps with new bounce pads, teleports, different atmosphere and music. Not only that, the music in these maps will not reset after you respawn. If you want a little more of a challenge, you can play the hard version of the maps. Additionally, this gamemode also works with split-screen mode.

To set up the frag limit, you have to leave the frag limit setting at 1 in the gamemode options, and then the host will need open up the console (Press ~ to open it) and type in globals.setfraglimit(XX) (The Xs being numbers). There also needs to be at least 2 human players for it to work properly. If you're playing by yourself, you can set up the time limit in the gamemode settings and the match will end by whoever has the most frags after the time runs out.

To change the amount of bots in a map, the host will need to open up the console and type in globals.setbotnum(XX). The maximum amount of bots you can set at is 8 for Brkeen Chevap and Fiaca, 16 for Courtyards of Death and 12 for the other maps.

The bots are modified versions of the npcs from Mischievous' NPC pack. Since they are using the legged character puppet entity, they will not be able to grab health, armor and pick up weapons, so each ♥♥♥ is set to a specific weapon type. Furthermore, you can pick up their weapons after they die, and those weapon items will last throughout the whole match so make use of that.

Sometimes the bots will prefer to run back and forth in the same corner in a match. To counter this, I also placed some hidden bouncers around the edges and corners of the maps, where players will not be able to reach normally unless they prefer to camp around corners instead of fighting directly.

To any mappers that are interested in making maps for this gamemode, I have included a test map for the bots. This map shows off the basics of making a ♥♥♥ map, and has all of the entities and scripts you need for making a new ♥♥♥ map.

To open up the map, you will need to launch the editor and go to Content/SeriousSam3/Levels/Z5_Other and open ATestMapFor_Bots.wld. Make sure you have _Bots in the name of your map or else the ♥♥♥ scripts will not detect your map.

NOTE: This gamemode slightly modifies the PlayerPuppet_DM.ep file due to a bug with the mod's script functions that aren't able to pick up piercing damage from weapons such as the devastator and the cannon. This small modification to the file makes it so that the player is immune to piercing damage in versus gamemodes only. If you want to play on regular deathmatch modes, it is probably recommended that you disable this file first (But only the host needs to disable it).
