Description
Remember to leave a thumbs up if you like what you're seeing, thanks!

If you'd like to support my work(and maybe free up some hours) you can make a donation. Donations are very appreciated as it takes thousands of hours to develop terrain. Thank you!

ANNOUNCEMENT: BI has opened up Apex objects to those without the DLC. However, I might need to rework my configs a bit since they inherit from Tanoa.

This terrain is currently in the process of development(W.I.P.)! So any feedback is appreciated, especially with ai behaviour.

DESCRIPTION

Iwagi is a 6x6km terrain comprised of smaller islands. It originally started as a real world terrain(Iwagi, Japan) but has morphed into a fictional one. This mod currently requires the following content:
- Em_Buildings
(mods may change during devlopment)

Iwagi island, in the center, is the largest island. The largest town is located on the south side of the main island. The hilltop holds a large military base, airfield, and residential area. Kosagi is to the south east and includes a larger commercial airport. Kokatsu is to the north east and holds a large industrial complex.

PROGRESS:
- Most of Iwagi City is finished, I may just be adding some smaller objects etc.
- A lot has been done to the hilltop area, military still needs to be reworked(remove windmills etc.) and more detail to the Hilltop Residential.
- Most of the South Eastern side of Iwagi is finished [STILL NEEDS A NAME].
- Most of the South and Western sides of Iwagi are finished [WEST STILL NEEDS NAMES].
- Started running railroad tracks up the western side of Iwagi, I'm hoping to run them all the way around the island.
- [MAINTOWN] of Kosagi island is mostly finished.

KNOWN ISSUES:
- Sat and mask still need to be adjusted in a lot of places. This dictates both what you see from a distance, and the ground textures that load in close to you. I'll be working on this as I go along and I promise it will look better.
- Too many trees! Fear not, I'll be removing a lot of them. I suspect FPS will increase a bit once I've thinned them out.
- Roads need to be adjusted a bit to make turns smoother and the ground needs to be flattened in places.
- The Arma 2 apartment buildings: the smaller one has geometry issues at the top of stairwell, and tall apartment's ladder doesn't work.
- AI don't like crossing some of the bridges.

THANKS AND CREDITS

The terrain(heightmap), satellite map(seen in distance before ground textures load in), mask(used to generate the ground textures), and object placement were all done by cring0.

However, without some others, I never would have made it as far as I have and even if I had finished something, Iwagi would not be the same. The Arma modding community has some very smart, sacrificing, hard working people in its ranks and to be honestly blunt, Arma wouldn't be what it is without them. It's been a pleasure getting to know yinz!

Uro has been a friend and very helpful throughout the development of Iwagi and helped me to understand many things about the wonders of Arma modding(though a lot of things went right over my head). He'd un-broken my configs for me a couple times, which saved me from jumping off a bridge. Uro has been modding Arma for some time now and has made models such as his Memorial to the Fallen. You can sometimes find him on Twitch at http://twitch.tv/urotsukidoj1. Thank you for all your help, Uro!

Snake Man[community.bistudio.com] had also walked me through a lot of things. Once, he had even recovered my entire project for me when I pressed the wrong button and everything went POOF! (#armathings) Snake Man has been around the Arma modding scene for a looooong time and maintains his http://pmc.editing.wiki. It is there that you can find his Arma 3 Ultimate Terrain Tutorial[pmc.editing.wiki]. Thank you for being there Snake Man, I appreciate it!

Jakerod created the Atlas Guide[forums.bistudio.com] which definitely helped me get the ball rolling. Thanks Jake!

Mikero's Tools[community.bistudio.com] were required to build the terrain files(since BI's tools break them). His subscriber tools also provided placeholder objects for Apex content, since Apex objects were locked within EBOs. Wouldn't be able to do it without you, Mike. Thanks!

EMOGLOBINSKY created the Em Buildings which can be found here.

Silola created the Xcam Tool[www.armaholic.com] for Arma 3. I've used this a lot for both precise and randomized object placement.

Lappihuan made the Buldozer Tools[forums.bistudio.com] which are now part of Mikero's subscriber tools. It helped a ton, thanks!

Bludclot helped with many suggestions and tips. He also made a Buldozer Cursor Pack[forums.bistudio.com] which came in handy. Thanks buddy! You can find Bludclot's work here and his videos here.

I'm very thankful for the following for their support over the time spent on Iwagi through interactions or even donations!

  • hill_gaming
  • tazmania720
  • tobiassolem
  • hydra
  • hawaiian_sn0w

I would also like to thank MattAust for their Arma 3 Buildings and Poolpunk for Barriers and Containers, as their work was temporarily used in the creative process for Iwagi.

Thank you all who helped produce the pretty, colorful things in the Apex expansion. Without it, this would be yet another dry, meditteranean terrain.

A very special thank you to Bushlurker who has been an invaluable source of information for probably anyone who has ever done terrain work for Arma and just an all around awesome individual. He's provided informative reading material for ages and we'll all miss him in the Arma 3 terrain Skype group. May you rest in peace, sir. You will not be forgotten!

Finally, those Arma devs over at Bohemia Interactive. Despite the faults of the engine and tools, lack of documentation, blah blah blah... Where would we be without your franchise? Arma is unique in many different ways, but most of all is its mod-ability. Arma has really given a lot of people a creative outlet which has even turned into a way of life or career for some. Sure, in a perfect world Arma would make all our dreams come true.. and who knows, maybe in the future it will! (*cough* godplease *cough* newengine) But, the thousands of hours that many of us have put into your games is a testament to your hard labours and many of our lives would not be the same without it. All of you, going back to the dawn of time ca. 1985, thank you for your hard work!

Do you think maybe you could use some assets from the EAW mod for the buildings?

https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1680535349 <-- This includes updated version of Iwagi, renamed Pelosi Peninsula. It also includes other terrain that I'm working on, as well as all the textures etc. It also requires more mods, including CUP. Everything, of course, is still WIP.

BTW I started uploading things I'm working on to my Workshop named "cringo's WIP nightly builds" if you're interested. I have the more updated version of Iwagi on there, but I'm calling it Pelosi Peninsula. I'll try to upload things I'm working on to that project when I get the chance to get anything done. If I get anything into something resembling a presentable state, I'll upload it separately.

when do you plan on actually updating this map?

keep it
XfinityPacketLossProPackage  [author] 9 Feb, 2019 @ 8:35pm
I apologize, when I first made that image I didn't understand the implications. In order to change it I have to update the entire mod, and if I do that right now I will break it. I've been working on it but I'm not sure how I want to go about updating it because I've changed a lot.

Alas, you probably already negatively rated and dgaf about anything else so nevermind.
