Description
You do not need Difficulty+ for this to work (but it will work with it, and was made with it in mind).
This is still being tweaked. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome. In fact, thats what this addon is here for.

The Short Story
This addon makes defense behave differently.

The Long Story
In vanilla Starbound, armor protects against a percentage of damage equal to its defense rating. This would mean that armor with a defense rating of 5 would absorb 5% of damage, while armor with a defense rating of 100 would absorb 100% of damage. Instead of this linear equation from defense to damage absorbtion, this mod uses an expoential equation. This means that there is a small deminishing return for every point of defense past the first. This means that while a defense of 1 absorbs 2% of damage, a defense of 100 only absorbs about 87% damage. To get a full 100% damage absorbtion (without a rounding error), you would need a defense rating of infinity.

The "Important" Bit (?)
Unlike Difficulty+, I didn't make this with a specific goal in mind. I just wanted to know what Starbound would be like if it used an expoential equation rather than a linear one for armor. I was also curious to see what other people thought about it.

The portion of damage a defense rating will absorb can be found by this equation: 1-0.99^(2d), where d = defense rating

I forgot to mention a couple of other things this mod does:
- Changes how much defense armor has at different tiers. Tier 1 armor will have a defense rating of 12 and absorb about 21% of damage, tier 6 will have a defense rating of 61 and absorb about 71% of damage (vanilla absorbtion values are 25% and 80% respectively). This scale goes up to 100 defense at tier 10 (87% damage absorbtion). Yes, this is applied to mod armor as well.
- Increased shield health very slightly (10%).
- Increased the damage cap from 1,000 to 1,000,000, just like Difficulty+. This is because they both patch the protection.2functions file.

New (New) Update! (And FU Compatability)
This mod is now part of Frackin' Universe! If you have FU, then getting this mod would just be redundent.
There is one exception: If you are using Frackin' Universe and D+ together, you will want to get this mod.
This is a side effect of D+ removing the damage cap, and FU using this mod, which both modify the exact same table quite extensively. This mod overrides D+'s modification of that table, causing it to keep values form FU (well, it actually overwrites D+'s overwrite with values identical to D+). In short, this mod will make D+ and FU play nice together.

I have a defense rating of 112 and I'm still impervious to physical damage.

Heya!
Running into a weird issue and hoping maybe someone else here has seen it or might know how to fix it. It seems that the change to how defense works isn't applying. At 100+ armor, I'm still completely immune to incoming damage rather than just extremely resistant. Using the armor scaling equation, it shows that I SHOULD have have ~93% damage resist at 134 armor, but instead I take no damage at all if I'm over 100. Is that mod still working, or is another mod I have messing with it?

i find it odd that with only 100 defense yoou become impervious to damage. this makes some mod armors quite overkill.
