Introduction

Note: There have been look-a-like copycat guides popping up. If it's not labeled by THN (The Horror Network), it's NOT one of mine and therefore not up to the quality that I aim to provide.

Welcome to the Resident Evil 7 achievement guide.

All of the achievements here are pretty straightforward, and not as difficult to obtain as most prior Resident Evil games. Unless you pre-ordered and unlocked Madhouse Difficulty early-on, you'll need at least 3 playthroughs to net all of the achievements.

Playthrough One: Use this time to enjoy the game on Normal difficulty. You will more than likely get at least half of the achievements at this stage.

Playthrough Two: Go through the game again on Madhouse difficulty while also utilizing the guide for collectibles (files, coins, Mr. Everywhere bobbleheads). There are some coins that are only available at this difficulty setting.

Playthrough Three: This will be your speedrun stage. The game must be completed in under 4 hours to net a specific achievement. Easy difficulty is advised.

This guide is considered COMPLETE

Endings & Difficulty
Playing it Safe
Complete the game on Easy.
Beat the game on Easy difficulty. If you beat the game on Normal and Madhouse, you will also get this.

The Nightmare's Finally Over
Complete the game on Normal.
Beat the game on Normal difficulty. If you beat the game on Madhouse, you will also get this.

Who's Your Daddy Now?
Complete the game on Madhouse.
Beat the game on Madhouse difficulty.

End of the Night
Get ending 1.
After making the serum and given the choice to save either Mia or Zoe, choose Mia.

Just A Memory Now
Get ending 2.
After making the serum and given the choice to save either Mia or Zoe, choose Zoe.

Just Get Me Outta Here
Complete the game within 4 hours.
Best saved for a run through on Easy. After getting familiar with the game, this shouldn't be too difficult so long as you don't take a long time exploring. It's also advised to skip the videotapes. As well, the in-game timer stops when you are at the pause menu.

Walk it Off
Complete the game using only 3 First Aid Meds or less.
Play on Easy difficulty. This will still be fairly difficult, however you shouldn't take much damage after you become acquainted with the boss battles. You CAN'T use plain herbs. However, you CAN use Steroids to heal yourself.

Resource Manager
Complete the game without opening the Item Box more than 3 times.
Technically the game makes you open the box three times (the big green box). However, if you die in a boss fight you get the option of rearranging and managing your inventory, and it doesn't count negatively toward the achievement. Therefore, you're only forced to open the box once, near the end when you do the birthday part with Lucas (not the video tape), then again afterward since you'll need the crank.

Bosses & Enemies
Things Got Personal
Finish off an enemy with the knife.
Easiest done on the flying bugs in the old house, where Marguerite patrols.

Slash Slash, Slashity Slash!
Clear insects off a door using a knife.
There are only a couple chances to get this achievement, and bugs do not appear on any door until you reach the location with Marguerite. Simply go up to the door and start slashing with your knife until the achievement pops.

Less is More
Take down two or more enemies with one shot.
Also easily done in the above location with the flying bugs. However, it can also be pulled off with the shotgun by grouping two Molded together in the basement. I believe that killing two enemies with one Remote Bomb counts as well.

That's a Spicy Meat-a-ball
Kill an enemy by attaching a Remote Bomb to them and detonating it.
You can attach a Remote Bomb to an enemy while grappling with it.

Duck If You Love Life
Avoid Jack's scissor attack by crouching.
The first time you face off against Jack is in the garage. There will be a second time as well. During the second encounter, after doing enough damage to him he will grab chainsaw scissors. When he rares back to slice into you, duck.

Back Off, Mrs. B!
Fight off Marguerite while she wanders the old house to make her run away.
You will go to the old house, where Marguerite resides. She will push you away at one point, infect a door with bugs, and start patrolling a particular room and hallway of the house. Instead of playing hide-and-go-seek with her, fight her.

Fly Swatter
Shoot and knock back Marguerite while she's leaping at you.
This will be the second time you encounter Marguerite, after falling into the hole and fighting her off. This might be a bit tricky, but you should be able to time when she's about to leap at you in her new form due to her recoiling right before jumping. It may take a couple tries.

Collectibles
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Some collectibles DO carry over, some DON'T.
However, with ones that do carry over, it's impossible to tell which ones you missed.
Therefore, it is highly recommended to do all collectibles in one playthrough.
We will be using THIS collectible guide.
Note: I did NOT make the collectible guide.

The Devil Is in the Details
Read all of the files in a single playthrough.
There are a total of 32 files throughout the game. Refer to THIS guide for the locations.
Note: I did NOT make the collectible guide.

Pelicans in Your Pocket
Obtain all of the Antique Coins in Easy or Normal difficulty.
There are 18 coins on Easy/Normal. This does NOT stack with Madhouse difficulty. THIS guide will help you out.
Note: I did NOT make the collectible guide.

Mad Pelicans
Obtain all of the Antique Coins in Madhouse difficulty.
There are 33 coins on Madhouse mode. Earning this achievement will NOT net you the one for Easy/Normal.
THIS guide will help you out in both instances.
Note: I did NOT make the collectible guide.

Can't Catch Me
Complete the "Mia" videotape without being spotted by Marguerite.
This is the second of 4 videotapes in the game. You will play as Mia, and you will need to hide from Marguerite. Luckily she's pretty easy to stay hidden from. If she does spot you, just let her kill you so that your last checkpoint reloads, and you'll still get the achievement. If she spots you and you run away and live, you will void the achievement.

Out Before Dessert
Complete the "Happy Birthday" videotape within 5 minutes.
This is the third of 4 videotapes in the game. You will be playing as one of Lucas' captured victims. As soon as you get control of the character in the video, do the following:

- Head straight to the doorway to a room with a cake. Sprinklers will blow out your candle.
- Grab the windup key from the keg.
- Go to where the clown is, go to the toilet and flush it. Stick your hand in, get telescope.
- Near the cake room, equip the dirty telescope and walk through the doorway to clean it.
- Use the telescope on the TVs with the pictures. Should be swordboy, bell, fetus. *MAY BE RANDOM.
- Input the combination on the locked box in the cake room. Get item. Leave room.
- Turn on the stove burner, burn figure to get dummy finger. Light the candle.
- Burn the rope off the closed door with the lit candle.
- Crouch and keep going toward the right wall to find a balloon that you can pick up.
- Go back, put the balloon on the gas pipe.
- Go to the clown, give it the dummy finger and quill pen.
- Head back to the room that had the balloon in it, put in the LOSER password.
- Grab the wheel and head back to the cake room.
- Use the wheel on the right side of the room, with the pipe, to turn off the sprinklers.
- Go back and light the candle, then go put it on the cake in the cake room.

Be Kind, Please Rewind
Watch all the videotapes in a single playthrough.
There are only 4 videotapes in the game, and none of them are out of the way to access. Nevertheless, refer to THIS guide.
Note: I did NOT make the collectible guide.

He's Here, There, Everywhere!
Destroy a Mr. Everywhere statuette.
There are a total of 20 Mr. Everywhere statuettes. Refer to Mr. Nowhere for more information.

Mr. Nowhere
Destroy all Mr. Everywhere statuettes.
For all Mr. Everywhere locations, please follow THIS guide.
Note: I did NOT make the collectible guide.

Misc.
Behind Closed Doors
Close an open door by yourself.
To close a door, look at it and press the "interact" key.

Arms in the Air
Block an enemy attack by guarding.
Simply push LB on your controller. There's a tutorial about guarding, you should get this during that time.

Master of Unlocking
Use a lock pick to open something.
You are given a lockpick early on in the game. Just use it on whatever locked container you see fit.

Open Your Eyes
Use psychostimulants.
Psychostimulants help you find items easier. You'll find some fairly early on in the game. Just use them whenever you want to go item hunting.

A-ha!
Obtain something by closely examining an item.
This practically comes without any effort. Just examine any item that you can pick up, and you'll eventually find something. There are containers that can be opened, vases with lockpicks inside, and in order to continue you must examine a picture frame that has a relief on it. If worse comes to worse, you'll get it there.

Nice Try
Put an unrelated object on a shadow plinth.
After you've found the aforementioned relief and opened the huge doors, you'll be in a large living room area with a few doors and two sets of stairs. One of the rooms will have a shadow plinth. Go up to it and interact with it, and use any unsuitable object, IE: an Antique Coin or Chem Fluid.

In the Bag
Increase your item slots.
Somewhere near the old house with Marguerite will be a safehouse with a backpack in it. Grab it to get more inventory space, and this achievement.

1st Place at the Science Fair
Create all items that contain Chem Fluid and Strong Chem Fluid.
Go to your inventory (Y) and press RB to get to the "combination" tab to view all of the item combinations. Perform each of these once to get the achievement.

- Chem Fluid + Herb
- Strong Chem Fluid + Herb
- Chem Fluid + Stimulants
- Strong Chem Fluid + Stimulants
- Chem Fluid + Solid Fuel
- Strong Chem Fluid + Solid Fuel
- Chem Fluid + Gunpowder
- Strong Chem Fluid + Gunpowder

Banned Footage Vol. 1 (DLC)
Dead by Dawn?
Complete Nightmare.
Just complete the Nightmare scenario. It's a wave based survival mode, and it's not that difficult.

Sleepless in Dulvey
Complete Night Terror.
Night Terror is the harder version of Nightmare. It's a little more difficult, but not by much. Just make sure to get the two extra doors opened as early as possible in order to take advantage of the machines that make scrap. Conserve and use your ammo wisely. If you're having problems, try this strategy.

I do not own this video.

Ratcatcher
Find all the dead rats in Bedroom in a single play.
Easy peasey, there are only three anyway. One is on the left hand side of the bedroom, behind a junk closet door, one is on top of the wardrobe in the second room, and one is in the stew pot that you're brought (you must use a fork to take a bite, then the rat is revealed underneath).

I do not own this video.

Like Mama Used to Make
Complete Bedroom.
Simply complete the Bedroom scenario. It should only take about 20 minutes. If you're stuck at any part, refer to the video guide below.

I do not own this video.

Ethan Never Dies
Complete Ethan Must Die.
This is the hardest achievement of this DLC. Ethan Must Die mode is a roguelike survival mode where if you get hit once, you're dead. All items are randomized, and it's just incredibly tough. I suggest dying repeatedly until you find a weapon before you enter the house for the first time. If you do happen to die thereafter, know that you can destroy the angel statue that you leave behind to regain a random item from your inventory. Refer to the video for the best route and strategies.

I do not own this video.
Banned Footage Vol. 2 (DLC)
Eye in the Sky
Complete 21.
I'm going to level with you right now, this entire minigame sucks. It's the card game Blackjack, but with a sick Saw like twist to it. What sucks about it is the computer's ability to cheat constantly. Anyway, to win the vanilla version, there are three total sections. You'll win once, then twice, then the third time is the worst. At that point, save a trump card that you get that makes your opponent draw the best card from the deck, using this card is the ONLY way to win the third and final section of the game. There are checkpoints after you win each section, so if you screw up it isn't that big of a deal.

Card Shark
Complete Survival mode in 21.
This part sucks even more. Now you have to face off against five opponents without losing all of your fingers. They're more stupid than the vanilla 21 game, but it's still difficult and time consuming. Try your best to card count to figure out what card your opponent has hidden, try to make them go bust, and use your "draw x card" trump card to figure out if your opponent has that particular one. Watch the razors at your hands, since the more that become raised the odds are you or your opponent is about to lose severely.

You Gotta Know When To Hold 'Em
Complete Survival+ mode in 21.
This is just the worst, I'd personally rather do Ethan Must Die again than this. Whoever at Capcom thought this torturefest up was having an awful day. It plays just like Survival mode, but Survival+ Mode is made up of 10 enemies. Good luck to you. It's all RNG, guessing, and luck.

Butterfly Effect
Get the bad ending in Daughters.
You will probably get this first, since it's the easiest and most linear routed ending. I don't want to give away too much here, but if you managed to get the good ending first, then this time do not go through the front door. There's another exit.

One Instinct: Survival
Get the true ending in Daughters.
It's difficult to explain in text, so I'm just going to say refer to the video guide.

I do not own this video.

Miracle Chef
Feed Jack every type of food and drink in Jack's 55th Birthday.
Best saved for when you're not going for S rankings or time bonuses. You must combine certain food and ingredients to make new food. This video forgot fruit + cake to make fruitcake, so don't forget to do that one as well.

I do not own this video.

Don't Keep the Man Waiting
Clear a stage with a 10 minute time bonus or higher in Jack's 55th Birthday.
Killing enemies gives you a time bonus, and as you go along you will get modifiers that will make the time bonuses that you receive even longer. It's not an easy task, but there's a video that can help with this.

I do not own this video.

Best Birthday Ever
Get an S Rank or higher on all stages in Jack's 55th Birthday.
There are 6 stages. The highest that you can get is SS ranking, and once you learn the layout of the levels and the spawns of the enemies, this gets a little easier. Still stupid hard, but a bit easier. Once again, a video for you.

I do not own this video.
Not A Hero (DLC)
Mission Accomplished
Complete Not a Hero on Easy or Normal difficulty.
Story related, cannot be missed.

You're the Hero Now
Complete Not a Hero on Professional difficulty.
Complete the DLC on Professional difficulty. To unlock this mode, you will need to beat the DLC first, just like with any other Resident Evil title. It's neither easier or harder than the main story, though it is a lot shorter.
End of Zoe (DLC)
Promise Kept
Complete End of Zoe on Easy or Normal.
Story related, cannot be missed.

Queensberry Rules
Perform a 4-hit combo with your bare fists in End of Zoe.
Pretty easy to do if you get the timing down. Use the punching bag outside of Joe's house if you want an easier time.

Swamp Warfare
Stealth kill 5 enemies in End of Zoe.
Aim for getting one in the first area, and there are three easy stealth kills in the first part of the second area. Crouch and sneak up behind the enemies to make less noise. It shouldn't be too difficult.

The Only Guns You Need
Complete End of Zoe on Normal or Joe Must Die using no weapons.
Honestly, Joe's fists are one of the best weapons in the game. MAKE SURE that you're playing on either Normal or Joe Must Die; Easy does not count!!! To make your life easier, just don't pick up any weapons; if you do, don't use it at all, even on non-enemies. Healing is fine, as is the AMG-78 gained at the end of the DLC. Stealth kill whenever possible, as that does not count as a weapon. You also need to get good at avoiding Crocodiles.

Fastest Man in the Swamp
Complete an Extreme Challenge in End of Zoe.
After beating the DLC once, start a new run on Normal. Power through the first zone as quickly as possible while dispatching all of the enemies. If you make it through the area in the time given, you'll get this achievement. If you use either version of the AMG-78, it will make the timer count down a lot faster... so don't use it.

King of the Swamp
Complete End of Zoe on Joe Must Die.
Much like Ethan Must Die, this is an extremely difficult mode where one hit means instant death. Luckily, there are four autosaves in this version, unlike its predecessor that acted as a rogue-like. The four points are:

1. At the start of the game.
2. After using the boat at the back of your house in the first area.
3. After using the boat in the second area after the Swamp Man fight on the boat. Be warned that between the Swamp man area post fight and the boat there are two enemies who if they kill you will send you back to your last save. They are only normal molded though and you can stealth kill both and even simply run by them though, still, be careful.
4. After the scene in the church.

survival+ was piss easy and you guys are all skill issues

Survival+ has a huge RNG component. Anyone saying otherwise is talking out of their hole. You can improve your chances by carefully assessing the numbers on the field, taking calculated losses when necessary and strategically using trump cards but RNG plays a huge role.
Nephryte 27 Jan @ 12:26am
I did survival+ without losing any fingers without even using the harvest card. Survival+ itself is barely luckbased just don't be a complete idiot and you can win 99% of the time (100% of the time if you use harvest)

Wont stand for this slander on like one of the best parts of the game :GDHard:
Peregrine 3 Jan @ 3:00pm
Survival+ on 21 is more tedious than anything, honestly. It can't be stressed enough how important Trump Switch+ is to have unlocked, as well as making sure you've got Destroy++ at the ready for the last enemy.
Revenant 19 Oct, 2023 @ 9:23pm
After multiple restarts, I beat Survival Mode in 21. Without losing any fingers. Managed to cut 4 off of Molded Hoffman at once to win. The amount of satisfaction in doing so is unmatched.

Just gotta do Survival + now, then I never have to play 21 again (unless I'm feel like torturing myself).
ResidentEvie 10 May, 2023 @ 2:33am
thank you, this guide has been a lot of help!
Nameless 31 Mar, 2023 @ 8:05am
21 is such a bs mode, just constant cheating from the AI causing a loss. Thanks for wasting like 30 minutes of my life
CrityCrit 29 Aug, 2022 @ 8:07pm
Yeah it 100% does cheat I got so absurdly lucky getting it first try but like in the last level of the first 21 mission you need to save cheat cards cant use them right when you get them so its a bit confusing cause you will use a card then next round legit need it to win so that can be very unfair and confusing.
The Horror Network  [author] 29 Aug, 2022 @ 4:49pm
Cheers for the reward! Yeah I've never got that damn achievement on any platform I've played this game... I know blackjack well but I swear the AI just cheats like hell. Maybe I'm just insanely unlucky.
CrityCrit 27 Aug, 2022 @ 11:14pm
I got so insanely lucky on 21+ survival its not as much RNG as people may believe. Watch a video on how blackjack works it's not as simple as get to 21, the cheating cards make it a lot easier the only problem is health. I'm having more trouble with Ethan must die tbh but great guide and thx for linking vids got a reward from me!
