@Midnight hunter didn't Nehemiah rebuild the walls after Cyrus (The REAL Great:) let the Israelites return after Babylonian exile as prophecy had fortold? I believe in the book named for himself the lack of walls symbolized a defeated people, and though the Temple was rebuilt the people wanted protection. The walls gave confidence to the people and also proclaimed to her neighbors that God was indeed still with them and helping them which I imagine would certainly produce faith (e.g.Nehemiah 2:20&6:16).
