What does this mod do?
In short, this MOD is a redrawing of the entire game map based on a real GIS (Geographic Information System) database.

The map in the Vanilla game is actually very inaccurate, with many glaring errors. For example, the length of South America has been significantly shortened and the entire American continent has been deliberately moved northward. On top of that, there are a lot of various mistakes, such as over-exaggerated urban areas, oversized or misplaced islands, and so on.

The map modification does not add new states or provinces, nor does it change the attribution of provinces, which means it is compatible with many mods.Theoretically this mod can be used with other mods that do not involve too much map modification.

This mod uses a standard Miller cylindrical projection to redraw the entire game map. The content of the geodatabase is derived from NASA Earth Observations and Natural Earth.

This mod is not Iron Man compatible because it changes the map data.



Main features
  • All data are based on real GIS data (rivers, terrain, landforms, etc.). So you can see the perennial snow in the Arctic Circle, the real ocean terrain, the rivers and lakes that are much more elaborate than the original.
  • Added the missing part within the Arctic Circle by extending the original provinces northward.
  • Channel Islands added through moving a province in Cornwall to its position. Thus Channel Islands still belongs to Cornwall.
  • Corrected the wrong shape of East Siberia.
  • Fixed the shape of the marine strategic area, no more irregular boundaries as in the vanilla one.
  • Fixed the South America's ratio. South of South America was shortened in the original game map.
  • Modified some border shapes according to GIS data of 1930s.
  • Moved New Zealand southwards and restore its relative position with Australia.
  • No provinces or states have been added and no province's attribution have been changed to ensure maximum compatibility, which means the history file was not changed. However, the location of some of these provinces has been moved to restore real geographical conditions.
  • Overhaul of the terrain based on the GIS terrain database.
  • Reduced the size of some Pacific islands. (Such as Iwo Jima, Okinawa)
  • Restored Australia to the correct relative proportions to other continents.
  • Restored the entire Americas to the correct latitude.
  • Restored the width of the English Channel without reducing the provinces. You still have to cross 3 provinces for landing operations.
  • The distribution of the city was adjusted according to the real GIS file of settlement distribution.
  • The provincial boundaries of each country have been carefully adjusted with reference to the historic administrative districts to facilitate others who wish to adjust the shape of the states.



FAQs

-It crashes.
Clear user directory.

-There are many errors in the log.
Because the object of the error log contains single pixel points or provinces that are too large/small. In order to restore a more accurate coastline, single pixel points are bound to appear. This is normal and will not affect the game, so there is no need to worry about it.

- Can you make it compatible with xxx mod?
Since it's already compatible with many mods, I have no plan to make it as a submod of certain mod. But you can make one by using this mod.

- Any new cores or states?
It's the content of my another project (Ultimate expanded states). But this is very time consuming, and the project is currently on hold.

- Please add XX (Place name).
If it is reasonable (such as the important strategic islands that are missing from the original map), I will consider diverting the existing provinces to realize it.


- Remap the terrain based on topographic data. The current version uses the vanilla game's terrain, only fixing the location of the city, and still leaves a lot out of place.

- Solve the problem of some islands being too small. Find a way to strike a balance between authenticity and playfulness.

I am interested in your mod, do you have any plans to make this mod compatible with the current version?
Also, I would like to make another mod that uses this mod to modify each of the vanilla modifications, may I use it?

May I ask you how did you get the GIS data used in your mod? I found difficult to locate a certain point on the map according to its longitude and latitude.
