Well I found a solution to our long range communication problem. After the Commander asked for longer range comms I explained that the effectual range of a laser antenna is about 20 km and there is not much we can do about that. After some convincing I got permission to look through some "non-standard" options. I found this beauty of an antenna: The Deep Space Transceiver. The designer goes by the moniker Darth Biomech. This beast of a comms array has an effectual range of 2 million kilometers! Well I stuck one on top of that stripped down defense module I used for a computer upgrade and viola! We have long range comms.

There are a few limitations to be aware of. First; staying connected takes a lot of power, and aligning it takes even more. Second, it has a limited field of view. On the surface of a planet this is not really a problem but in space this may require the entire station to be reoriented for optimal signal strength.

Once the module was done and the DST aligned we got some of our back logged communications and I found out I have been invited to an experimantal tech demonstration! I wonder what will be there? I hear somebody recently made a breakthrough in wireless energy transfer and site to site matter transmission. I can't wait!
