Description


This is my first la)ge ship I've completed after working on him for over a year. (Yes I do refer to it as a he rather than she, though it is odd.)

The "Little Jack" is a heavily armed & armored ship designed to operate solo in asteroid fields. He has one large hangar capable of holding 3-4 small ships depending on size and and a smaller hangar in the aft end of the ship which can hold a fighter or small transport ship. The ship has numerous docking ports to allow for mining ships or drones to offload and continue on and there is a gravity "ore chute" located on the ventral side of the bow which can harvest ore if you use an ejector system.

The "Jack" also has 4 large reactors located in the aft end of the ship, near these reactors are several merge blocks mounted near the aft engine section. The ship can generate 2.4 Gigawatts of power so it could be used as a power source for a construction project or a power take off for another ship that needs a boost to their power output.

Ship comes with 1 utility ship which has a welder and saw on it, and one mining ship with an ejector system. Also now comes with 2 Thunderbolt Gunships.

I tried to build the ship with as much detail as I could but since I'm a newbie ship builder it may be not up to par. Rooms included on the ship are a Bridge, CIC, Med Bay, Cryo Bay, Small Cargo room, Airlocks, Crew Quarters with 4 rooms each holding 4 bunks and storage space, Engine Room, Reactor Room, Workshop with Assemblers, 2 Pilot Ready Rooms, Main Hangar and Aft Hangar Control rooms and the Hangars themselves. The Main Hangar also has 3 airlocks to allow for ship entry during space ops.

The ship has a number of small details I included such as "docking clamps" on the port and starboard side which are controlled from the bridge (rear seats on either side). Lighting racks on the underside near the ore chute for mining operations which are controlled from the bridge or by hand from control panels outside the ship (they can be rotated up and down). As well as numerous stations throughout the ship with various controls. Granted it's complex but I tried to make everything as user friendly as possible within the limits of the game.

A note about the airlocks, due to a "design flaw" I failed to hook the airlocks up to an independent air tank. This means that the airlocks pull air off the main system and that can cause a minor problem when trying to open an airlock. If the air-tanks are full, then the airlocks can't do anything with the oxygen since they have no where to put it. This can lead to the airlocks and hangars "jamming" when trying to open. I've built in a workaround for this, on the smaller personal airlocks you can just open the door manually after about 15-20 seconds. The door light should turn green and unlock even if the airlock has not been depressurized. Since hangar doors cannot be opened like a small door, I've added a manual override on many of the button panels to open door in the event of the hangar becoming "jammed". You may have to wait about 20 seconds for the indicator lights to turn yellow, but once they do just hit the manual override and it will open the door.

A note on flying the "Little Jack", this ship is quite heavy and care needs to be taken when manuvering him around. Although he has almost 100 gyroscopes the ship is still sluggish when turning so grab a cup of coffee and hold the arrow key down, he'll come around eventually. Despite tipping the scales at over 25 million kg the ship has some good pickup with the hydrogen thrusters, however, slowling down is not as great as I would like it to be. Try not to aim or head directly at an astroid or space station as you might find yourself putting a hole in it if you're not careful. Finally most of the ship was laid down around the same time as the "Planet Patch" for SE was coming out. Because of this the ship was not designed to operate in an atmosphere and thus should be kept away from planets.

A note on the mods, this ship does not require any of them to be installed in order to work as the scripts are already loaded into the ship computers. I do recommend having them subscribed though as the game is updated the scripts may need to be updated as well. Also I use the clean glass mod since I hate the default glass in the game, because this mod does not have an opaque side to the glass it may mean some glass panes may be rotated incorrectly when using the default glass or something else.

Cargo Space: 10 Large Cargo Containers & 34 Small Cargo Containers with over 4710000L of space.

Power: 6 Large Reactors, 4 Small Reactors, & 40 Batteries with over 2.4 GW of power output.

Oxygen: 11 Oxygen Farms, 6 Oxygen Generators, & 70+ Oxygen Tanks. Also has 4 large hydrogen tanks for fuel.

Material Processing: 6 Refinery's, 6 Arc Furnaces, & 12 Assemblers

Firepower: 20 Gatling Turrets, 16 Missile Turrets, 8 Forward Firing Rocket Launchers, and numerous Internal Turrets for defense.

Hey Brodpwnz, yes my intent is to do a major revision to the ship. However, my problem is I suffered a stroke after releasing the ship and I don't have access to my desktop PC right now, but I plan to do an overhaul when able.

Yo Thorland will you ever revise this ship you know update it at all? It is one of my fav and would love to see it refitted with new scripts and so on.

yw sure :D youre the creator, but honestly its one of the prettiest ships on a decent size i have seen so far, also the design reminds me a bit of halo ships what is really good, especially that huge really huge hangar is something spcial not every vessel has (My biggest dream is a ship which has some hangar going through it which is almost some kind of street with shops and private hangars inside and you can leave the hangar through many gates just some really big badass ship) Your ships is really close to my dream x-x ( there are unsc infinity ships out there with smaller hangars) and even the vanilla turrets fit into the design althought i absolutelly hate them usually xD

Thank you very much. On one hand I didn't know there was a mod to remove the camo patterns which I might try out. On the other hand I will admit the ships not supposed to be pretty and the camo does give that air of "dirtiness" to it. I'll have to toy around with it.
