Staff of Parthalan from Dragon Age 2

And now, the Staff of Parthalan from Dragon Age 2.

Made with 3ds Max 2011, Mudbox 2012, and Photoshop CS4.

Because Dragon Age 2's staves had a melee attack, I've included a two handed version of the staff (just inverted grip) acting as a greatsword (steel stats). The staff has a lightning enchantment to mimic the end of the DA2 Destiny trailer (versus the fire stats in the game). The sword has nothing on it, so feel free to enchant away.

Neither the staff nor the sword can be forged. You will have to defeat their owners in The Midden Dark (coc winterholdcollegemidden02). If you get to the gauntlet, they're in that cellar area past the goat. The owners are level 26, so prepare accordingly.

You'll need an iron ingot, steel ingot, and leather strips to temper the sword. The staff, well, it's a staff. No tempering there.

Stat-wise, the greatsword variant is as strong as a steel greatsword. It is slightly faster, but has lower stagger stats.

Known issues:

-If your target is too close, the staff's attack won't hit them. This seems to be an issue with all staves. So, I'm not sure if there's anything I can do.

-The magic effect is a little far from the gem. This was a design choice. I wanted the gem in frame when you wield the weapon in first person. Additionally, the untranslated grip point is smack dab on the transition piece from shaft to blade. Not very comfortable and undesired. If you know of a way to reposition the effect's origin please let me know.

-No, the staff does not sheath like in a couple screenshots. That was just me messing around with attachment points in the nif. Sadly, changing the attachment points screws up whatever scripts control drawing/sheathing a weapon. If you know what scripts handle this, please let me know.

-The gem may change slightly depending on whether you have a water texture mod or not.

Release 1.01:

-Readded AO overlay to the diffuse texture
-Toned down the wrap normal map

-Fixed blood not showing up on the sword variant.
-Recolored Gem and added refraction

Release 1.03:
-Changed the sword variant's animation selections to make attacks and drawn animations look better.
-Additionally, in true mage fashion, some killmoves will result in you knocking an opponent down and stomping their face in. Other observed killmoves involve impaling enemies on the ground and death by squatting.
