Make 2 (or more) saves
You can make as well different saves for 2 or more separately games

- Go to Library - No Man's Sky - Proprieties and disable Steam Cloud option under Update tab
- Go to WIndows install HDD ex.. C:\ - C:\User\your name\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames (appdata folder is hidden see below, a short way is to digit %appdata% in Cortana search)
- cut the NMS folder and paste somewhere else (ex on desktop), this folder will be save n°1
- Then start a new game that will create a new NMS folder, this folder will be save n°2.
- Every time you want to switch a save simply cut the NMS folder and replace with the other
- Steam Cloud must remain disabled for obviously reasons

You can make every saves you want
Pre order remain active at the restart of a new game

My basic process, and certainly with the second Freighter-acquisition 'bug', is to:

1. Before playing per day, go and make a simple dated duplication for the folder in: X:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS (I add the date to the end)
2. Start game. Play, etc.
3. ALWAYS carry at least one Beacon with you and place it at strategic times to force a Save. As this is not the Save you get climbing out of ship or getting a new ship/freighter, etc. it means you have a Save that will not be overwritten.

IF I have some disaster, I can revert to that Manual save. If I have a complete disaster, I can revert to the folder-save I did earlier. I lose some play time, but it's not a complete disaster.

I am sure there are other better solutions, but this simple solution works for me :steamhappy:

@Aetheogh dude when you make a new game make sure not to save or hop in/ out of your ship and you should be able to just relaunch the game to give you a new planet. Not saving on a fresh file = New Planet on Launch :)

My question is, could you follow these steps to potentially force NMS to play your original save. It keeps bringing me to the "Initialize" screen, I have 19 hours in, but it will not load my save file.
