Better Sieges

Description
CA intended sieges in WHTW to be 'epic' and and a bloody affair for any unprepared attacker. However, it is very easy to slaughter the (AI) defenders of a walled settlement by using exploits like staying in the blind spots of the wall towers and fireing away with ranged units and magic or using a single hero as a decoy while your artillery destroys all towers. In fact, it is easier to win a siege attack aginst a stronger opponent then to win a field battle. This mod fixes this and makes some other minor adjustments to sieges like making siege towers and rams worthwhile to use.

Detailed Changes

- Wall towers have a 160 degree field of fire and can cover the whole map in front of them with their projectiles. No more blind spots to hide whole armies in. This fixes exploits like hugging the wall with a wizard and firing away with spells while keeping the rest of the army outside range.
- Towers are harder to destroy (doubled their hitpoints) and can hit small moving targets. This fixes exploits like running a hard to hit hero in front of them while destroying them with artillery.
- Lowered damage of towers to adjust for the above changes. Siege towers are less easy to destroy while unprotected troops will still suffer a lot.
- Gates have more hitpoints but rams do much more damage to them. Rams are now the best choice to break the gates quickly.
- Siege equipment costs less manpower to build which also leads to shorter sieges.

GAMEPLAY NOTES

Siege towers are now very usefull both for the player and the AI. They can soak up the tower fire while approaching the walls and are less easily destroyed. As attacker make shure to capture enemy wall towers as quickly as possible to protect your troops on the field once the siege towers reach the wall and the wall towers change their targets. If you want to overrun a settlement in one turn without siege equipment be ready to pay a prize in blood.

COMPATIBILITY
Obviously not compatible with mods that change the same gameplay mechanics. Can be installed or uninstalled at any time without breaking saves.

This mod combined with better autoresolve made my campaign experience awesome. After installing it I had a lot of heroic siege defence battles and lost some cities too. It seems to me that the AI is more willing to attack instead of waiting for attrition..At least so far in my campaign. Cant thank you enough!

Does this mod make Gates stronger? I would like more uses of Rams instead of using large creatures all the time to destroy the gate in less than a minute.

Had to revert some changes after the Norsca patch since there was an issue with the time it took for building siege equipment and the lenght of sieges. Sorry for the inconvenience.

This is a base AI problem, the AI never wants to fight a battle it doesn't have an advantage in, so it will just abuse the stupid siege attrition mechanic.
Only mod I've found that fixes this AI habit also breaks the siege engine construction system so the AI can just build 20 siege towers in one turn.
