Description
Inspired by Star Citizens Crucible but built with survival in mind. Think is right at 2,000-blocks which is large but not to large... but yea I saw Star Citizens Crucible which is a repair ship and just stared to drool... wanted to see if I could make something of similar style in SE that could actually be maintained by a faction online. Have to confess watching Luke the Duke and seeing his adventures it got me thinking on the subject of a construction and processing ship.... for lack of better words.... because this thing can do more than just weld and and make repairs.... Model-A is bob-tailed and doesn't have rear pylons like the Star Citizen Crucible but I just wanted to rush this out the door so Model-B will have the rear pylons.. that I will utilize for drone hangers.
.
Concept and details:
This is a multi-purpose construction ship. Im not sure what else to call it. I think the title "repair-ship" is short selling it a bit as its fully equipped with assemblers, refinery, generators, tanks, and furnaces... See after watching LukeTheDuke (LTD) I noticed the importance of dedicated tankers, miners, and welders for larger factions... so not only can this build ships, repair ships, and refine/build all the components needed to do-so itself.... but I also added four (x4) hydrogen tanks so it could process ice and refuel both small and large ships.... so it also serves as a tanker. Originally I was going to have it hydrogen powered (and im sure a hydro version will be born after I finish the drone hangers for Model-B) however for now it does fine on pure ION... they looked cool and served a refueling purpose so I left them.
.
This has three (3) modes of function when it comes to welding.
.
1) Small ships to be insta welded up from the service module.
.
2) Medium ships (such as the NightHawk, Corvettes, Frigates, etc.) can be gotten with the arms when module detached. (See Screen shots)
.
3) Large ships, if they wont fit between the arms can be welded up traditionally using the nose welders. This is a little slower than the arms (which just have to make an up and down pass to be done) but still faster than by hand.
.
Future plans.
I want this to be a truly multi-crew-capable ship so while controlling the main hull you can have other crew members piloting welding drones independently to help speed up any projects or ever work on many projects at once. Say you're building your ship, and a friend needs a welder to work on his own. Well he can jump aboard the Crucible grab a drone and start work on his ship too or you both can work on the same project. Say a massive battleship which could utilize the drones and main hull. ... Plus people always need to make parts and refine ore so you can do so with the assemblers .... No more having to hand-weld, having to wait on a welder, or for parts to be made.
.
The advantage to Model-A is without the drones its easier to get built with less resources. Sometimes drones arent needed after all. See screen shots of how the welding arms work for medium ships.
