Reaction Control System (cheat mod)

Description
This is a simplified, lightweight and more performance-friendly version of
Thruster Physics & Differential Throttling mod.

Notes -- READ THESE FIRST
  • Do not use this mod alongside with Digi's Realistic Thrusters; otherwise you'll end up applying the same thruster torque twice,
  • Do not use this mod alongside with Thruster Physics & Differential Throttling either; these mods, despite sharing codebase, are incompatible,
  • Only minimal testing on LAN has been done, thus no guarantees that this mod will work correctly in real multiplayer.

Differences between this mod and TP & DT
  1. There is no differential throttling, no thrust calibration and no active control; instead this mod cheats by magically discarding engine torque if there are enough gyroscopes onboard. If the ship has insufficient gyros to cancel combined torque from thrusters, it will spin,
  2. Having gyroscopes on a ship is mandatory, like in vanilla,
  3. Engines can either steer the ship or accelerate it, but not both at the same time*,
  4. There are no special thruster modes, simply because they are not needed.
* for safety reasons, this mod will not override thrusters activated by WSAD keys.

On the other hand, this mod offers several gameplay advantages over the other one:
  • it is fully compatible with stock RC autopilot,
  • no control lag,
  • no sudden jarring caused by thrusters trying turn and accelerate the ship simultaneously,
  • ships with enough gyros will fly straight at full power, just like in vanilla, with the added bonus of being able to use thrusters to turn.

Usage
By default, all thrusters on a ship will participate in manual steering. To exclude thrusters from RCS functionality, simply add them to a group with [NO RCS] tag in its name. Please note that disabling steering will not stop engines from exerting torque on a ship.

Credits
Both title image and the video use opposite thruster blocks made with a six-side conveyor +
nukeguard's RCS thrusters on four sides.

The mod has long been discontinued.

It never was intended for MP.

So I think it's broken for multiplayer

I've been fiddling with this for a few months now, and I can definitely it's a ton of fun to build ships that can flip'n'burn properly. I especially like that it integrates with existing designs without needing major changes.
Unfortunately, it seems that certain encounters, particularly drones, spawned by MES are unable to locomote when this mod is running. As best I can tell, this has to do with a conflict specific to MES grid behavior; enemies spawned by economy missions, for instance, seem to work fine.

getting reports on my mod using this script that the new tether power poles is causing conflict, and cython’s old energy shield mod

I had a problem with intercepting thrust not working, but the [NO RCS] tag helped. And now it's the perfect mod, thanks!

Still, if one uses this mod on its own, (s)he will not get "really poor and expected performance out of improperly placed thrusters". So it is and will remain a cheat mod.

Yeah that figures. A shame because this is my favourite thruster torque mod.
Does anyone know of any other thruster-torque mod that is lightweight and controls steering? Digi's doesn't do steering, and TP & DT seems too overcomplicated.
