It is a drop pod. If you point it at a planet and push the launch button, it will take you there. Plain and simple. Fully self sufficient. You need no pilot. It may be possible to send a cargo container instead of a pilot, but the increase in mass could result in explosion. However don't worry, it may look like a coffin, but its totally safe. I tested this verison at least once.
