Description
A remake of one of the best Quake 1 maps: DM6 - The Dark Zone. It isn't a complete replica. First, because we are playing zombie survival, not a deathmatch. Second, needed to get rid of teleporters. Third, and the most important, zeds can't do rocket-jumps :)

Features
  • The map has been shown at E3'2015.
  • Remake of map that was very popular almost 20 years ago.
  • Each area has multiple exits. For example central area ("OctaRoom") has 5 exits and 7 entrances. Camping is hard, but kiting is not easier, because:
  • ZED shortcut paths. While you can run around the area, zeds behind you can just use a shortcut and face you again. Tripwire's teleporting zeds worsens the effect of this feature. But when you are running away from raged
  • Scrake and meet him around a corner, then it doesn't necessary mean that he was teleported. Maybe he used a shortcut.
  • Descent visuals. I tired of ugly custom maps that have flooded this forums. So I spent a lot of time to make my map looking like a modern game not just some kind of Wolfenstein3D-like maze.

I play sp, and I kite usually, I hope you aren't offended by my previous comment, that wasn't my intent, to be clear. I loved the dark setting. It's been so long since Quake 1 I can't remember the original map. I played it back when it initially released (I was college age back then).:Clot:

Original map was small too. Yes, I agree that comparing to standard KF2 maps it is small, but since most part of the game players are holding the same spot, it doesn't really matter.

Not bad, but it's small.

HOLY SHIT I PROMISE THIS IS THE LAST PART AND I'M DONE I FUCKING SUCK AT THIS COMMENTING THING HUH

I liked what I saw. I also know that the general KF2 playerbase won't bother with it as is, and that's unfortunate. This game could really do with a good Dark Zone map. I think this could be it, if you are still up for it.

Or, you know, just say fuck all y'all. I'd get that, too.

Three, you are being faithful to a fault in some spots. Things are a little cramped in ways that don't nessecarily make for a fun time.

Small environmental pushes and throwing bricks with notes taped to them are vastly different things. Trying to get people not to camp is fine, but someone isn't suddenly going to be a crack team player because you put them in a room with tons of hallways they have to watch. Less is often more.

After spawning, I took something like three steps and realized I was going down a ramp into what was supposed to be the secret area. For all the improvements you seem to have made with lighting, you can't see SHIT down there. Get rid of the fog. It does nothing for the map. Also, maybe don't have players spawn right in front of that ramp. I imagine at this point people have figured out how to make triggers, but if not, there has to be a better solution than "bigass ramp" for the implementation of that area.

So after reading your response, I went and played the map for myself like I should have in the first place instead of just looking at the screens.

I'm really bummed out you aren't played KF2 anymore, because that gives me the impression you are probably not interested in working on this map anymore either. You've got a REALLY solid start for something special here, but it still needs some work.

First, the lighting is significantly improved, and you honestly could maybe go back on one of those three boosts you mentioned. Things are washed out in spots, in others, they look like DarkPlaces (Which is a very good thing!)

Two, get rid of the outdated shots in the preview. There are several places that just straight up don't look like that in the actual map. The one that stands out to me is the 3 flames and the shadow of the Quake icon with the trader pod on the right, as well as the shot that looks down the stairs from above, with the hallway in the peripheral to the left.

Some good ol KF1. I played it again today since three months ago. Meh. Chaotic.

Nope. I uninstalled it to save some SSD space for other games. But I'm still playing KF1.

Are you still playing KF2? I losed faith when PVP and microtransactions apocalypse.
