Description
WOTC compatible. Will work with the expansion despite the warning. Making a new mod would be pointless as it would simply create two versions one of which wouldn't work with the base game.

Update 1/28/17

I've been pouring through the Call of Cthulhu audio books as narrated by our lord Wayne June. While grammatically there's some interesting things I clipped out, upon careful observation, I found them to lack the emotional intensity of the Darkest Dungeon voice over.

Further complicating things, I can't exactly duplicate the "ethereal" sound effect that RedHook added to Wayne June's voice (I managed to get pretty damn close, reversing the audio and adding a reverb, then reversing it again). But the Darkest Dungeon effect also has some kind of windy tunnel effect that I can't seem to duplicate (sorry, I have no tech expertise here so forgive my crude description!). If there are any sound guys out there who want to offer advice, leave a comment below -- thanks in advance.

I will probably look at this again sometime, but right now I think adding the lines I found would decrease the overall quality of the mod.

See Change Notes for older updates.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Before I begin: Big thanks to Wayne June and the creators of Darkest Dungeon. You guys made an awesome game and everyone should go buy it: http://steamproxy.net/steamstore/app/262060/

About my mod:

Wayne June's narrations for Darkest Dungeon clipped spliced and mixed for an XCom soldier voice. This mod is an upgrade over the older Darkest Dungeon soldier voice pack listed here on steam. I have been collaborating with its creator, Kobazco, and we decided this mod will replace that one.

I have spent about ~40 hours creating this mod including time learning the dev tools. Many of the lines are just directly clipped from the narrator files. Some are new remixes. I tried to make sure to only include the best sounding mixes, which means I ditched about 2/3 of what I created.

About 150 of the voice triggers have been populated. That's nearly all of them. I even populated triggers I'm not sure the game uses. This potentially means that the good old Ancestor will make comments if you are using mods that have added abilities that use those cues? But who knows if they will make sense.

There are about 370 lines assigned to those voice triggers. Many of these lines are reused across multiple cues but trust me, there's a lot of variety here. These 370 or so lines are applied about 1400 times to various cues, but don't worry, it should still be good. Many of the cues I'm not sure play in the game and lots of the cues vary by class, so there shouldn't be much irritating repetition. I tested this mod playing two maps using this voice pack with a diverse group of classes and only heard about a dozen repeats during that time (I think that's pretty good considering all 6 soldiers were using the mod).

Please help me improve this mod even further. Feel free to make suggestions for improvement or comment on the quality. Post all your complaints, insults, and criticisms as well. I'm a soccer referee IRL so you know I can handle the abuse. If there's a good tip in your message I'll consider it. Thanks for checking out the mod, expect updates in the future. Current ideas for future updates:

-Create new lines.

-Gain access to more of Wayne June's lines from Darkest Dungeon and add these to the voice pack (I am missing many of the lines added when the game exited early access).

-Add radio or other distortion to voice?

-Go back and rebuild the mod with higher quality sound files? (Closer to original quality). The thinking behind current quality was an assumption (perhaps incorrect) that 16 bit .wav files were compatible and that higher quality would not fit as well in the game.

-Tweak the volume? Should be consistent now, let's hear what people think.

-Add an option to load the voice onto female characters.

-For female characters, consider the option of loading a different pitched voice. And then making both voices available for both genders. You're all weir-- I mean, you're all a wonderful bunch of diverse and beautiful people asking for this.

Don't forget to rate this mod!

This mod is meant to be free for use by everyone. However, if you feel appreciative enough to throw some change my way, there's a link below. I am in a masters program to become a school teacher and could definitely use help with student loans. Thank you very much.

For anyone's information, I have made an expanded version of this mod, with more voice lines, cleaner cuts and much less repetition. Unfortunately, it only runs on WotC; I am not sure if it can be cooked without that requirement.
Usually it is not classiest to advertise on other people's pages, but...

A voice over mod has no intrinsic merit, unless inordinate satisfaction could be considered a virtue.

As stated at the very top of the top of the description, this mod is compatible with War Of the Chosen. Creating a second mod will only make for two versions that do the same thing except one is forwards compatible while the other isnt backwards compatible.
If you are playing WOTC this mod will work just fine despite any warnings.
