We are using Blender for our models, but we are also very knowledgeable with 3d studio max.

Other than that, these are great!
If you're aiming for a much realistic approach, getting floor plans and elevations are great guidelines. That's what I use in the Sims. The product in the Sims is not exactly accurate, but it didn't hurt to add some variation or alternatives.
