Helping the Minutemen
By Unhallowed Ritual
This guide is about how to fix the Minutemen faction and make Preston Garvey not be annoying as hell for people who didn't want to google it or don't know what they're doing in console.

Foreword and Chapter 1.
This will fix the Minutemen Faction and remove Preston Garvey's fetch quests from the game, so if you want infinite free XP and many nuclear supermutant deaths early on, be warned. this is also my first guide so be warned there may be bad spelling or grammar(and i don't really care about that).

this guide is not for people just starting out in the game after the vault opens. you need to have at least beaten the mission "Taking Independence" for the best result.

i've googled how to do this for you and compiled the resulting info on the charachters and console commands; sources: the fallout wiki called Nukapedia[fallout.wikia.com], Google.com, and gameplay. the modding guys who found the commands.

there are two methods to do this.
1. the complicated but easier way.
on windows 7 and later, you can create a "fake" batch file for the game by entering console commands followed by a semi-colon and a new line for each command into a notepad file. it must be saved as a ".txt" file to work, as an actual .bat file will not work. name it however you please, but to save it, save to the Fallout 4 root directory. (C:[or what ever your letter drive you used]-> steam->steamapps->common->fallout4)

you can then open the game, load your save, hit your console command key(tilde in the US), type in "RunConsoleBatch" space and the name of your file, minus the .txt part.
or the shorthand form of it as "Bat". note if you use the shorthand you should name your file as "man".

this will tell it to run the text file you made as a custom user script and execute each line..

you need to copy the following code into your text file:
setessential 00019fd9 0;
0001a4d7.RemoveFromFaction 00068043;.

remember the semicolons and new lines at the end. that formating is important for the engine to read it.
setessential 00019fd9 0; is the command that makes Preston Garvey set to non-essential.
0001a4d7.RemoveFromFaction 00068043; this will make him no longer considered a minuteman faction member so you can stay in their good graces if you so desire.
Chapter 2
the other method is open the game, go to your command console by hitting Tilde key in the US
and then typing in the following commands:
setessential 00019fd9 0; makes Preston Garvey Nonessential, otherwise he can't be killed, even with TGM toggled on and a rain of fatmen(Hallelujah?no? oh well, that fells like it could be a fallout mirv montage music).
0001a4d7.RemoveFromFaction 00068043; removes him from the minutemen faction. killing him or his death at the hands of a Wasteland creature/raider will no longer earn you negative points with that faction.

requires you to remember the codes, which are both of his formIDs.

if you so choose, you can then click on him with the console open and type
"kill". this kills the man. or you can kill him normally.

and there you go, a guide for people who hate the pointless fetch quest guy who constantly recycles the same things.

good luck, have fun and remember:
don't select him in the console and hit sexchange for the lols. it doesn't work and only makes his face shadowed/weird because it doesn't have the right normal map any more.same for any other companion type/essential charachter, unlike in skyrim
