CMV2 Mizubachi

Description
Crewed Mining Vehicle "Mizubachi"
The Mizubachi (Honey Bee) is a battery-powered mining vehicle. Drills are visible from the cockpit in first person, but there is also a camera for remote operation.

Features at a glance:
  • Oxygen tank
  • Four drills
  • Nine medium containers
  • Sorters and ejectors to discard unwanted stone (disabled while docked)
  • Docking camera
  • One-button docking system
  • Docking system turns off thrusters, gyros and antenna to save power and reduce HUD clutter

To dock you need only press 9 on the first page of the hot bar (both in cockpit and remote control), while next to a connector in the 'Ready' state.

Page two of the hot bars is for diagnostic/recovery purposes. The docking sensor will prevent accidental engagement of the docking system when not near another ship/station, but if you try to dock while not adjacent to a connector in the 'Ready' state you will lose remote control.

No mods required, but custom skybox and armour edge removal mods were used for screenshots.

This one, and its Kumabachi sister, are my new favorite modular work-ship design. I love the fact that most of the craft is identical, except for the work tools. It's inspired me to go along a similar route. The docking system is particularly well done, though the control hotbar needed a little tweaking to fit my needs.

My only complaints are the lack of support for program scripts, no LCD panels, low battery time, and perhaps the lack of defenses. The R/C block being buried so deep makes placing GPS waypoints for it difficult too. It also has limited lighting only at the front, making work in dark tight spaces more hazardous. Could use a little more reverse thrust to stop sooner, too. I've also found that turning on the stone ejection when undocking is a little annoying.

I'm working on my own refit version to improve the design and address most of these issues.
