Fusion Cores
Fusion cores are one of the most sought after resources of anyone who loves power armor or gattling lasers.

I've had alot of people ask me questions about fusion cores since i am always using power armor for everything and they say its just too hard to keep the power armor powered

So if you wanna get the most outta your fusion cores this guide is for you
Fusion Core Economy
Fusion cores are practically there own currency they are like gold in the post apocalyptic wasteland, Caps don't weigh anything and neither do fusion cores, caps have a value of 1 and fusion cores have a value of 670

Alright now that sentence does have a purpose and that is bartering with shop keepers.

Fusion cores have a value of 670 and that doesnt decrease when there capacity does, this means a 1% fusion core is the same value as a 100% fusion core, so if you get out of your power armor when its low and trade the core for a new 100% one you can then recycle that low power core with a shop keep for either a decent amount of caps or a discount on a new core.

Speaking of shop keeps i find the weapons dealers can store up to 6 fusion cores when they restock where most other vendors will only have 1 or 2 if your lucky and i personally find Good neighbour's weapons vendor KL-E-0 to have the largest quantities of Ammo.

Supermutant Behemoths usually have 5 fusion cores on them.
Level 3 weapon's dealer stalls in your settlements usually stock fusion cores.
Trashcan Carla the trader that is a regular at Sanctuary usually stocks 1 fusion core.

To futher maximise the value you get buying and selling fusion cores you should get the barter perk Cap Collector and the higher your charisma is the better prices are too.

Thanks to Random Casualty for the Supermutant behemoth and level 3 weapon dealer settlement stalls info on fusion cores.
Fusion Core Life Tips
Tips to prolong your Fusion cores life expectancy:

Power armor uses fusion cores everyone knows that but some activities use more power than others.

* V.A.T.S uses extra fusion core power than normal aiming and shooting
* Sprinting uses more than walking
* If you get the Jetpack upgrade for your power armor that drains significant power to use

So the best way to prolong the cores life is while in your power armor use V.A.T.S only when the enemy is hard to hit, otherwise keep running and jetpack jumping to a minimum and those valuable fusion cores should see you using your power armor for longer periods of time.

Also the Nuclear Physicist Perk is great as it doubles Fusion core life when maxed and also provides increased damage with radiation based weapons and allows the less conservative user to eject fusion cores as a devestating grenade attack (fusion cores will eject out your back from the slot and explode behind your character).

Nuclear Physicist does require 9 int though.

Also thanks to Orrin who has advised you can extend the life of a fusion core with the Repair bobblehead.
