Name Change
Did you not know that Codsworth can say over 1000 names, but are now too far in the game to start over? Tough luck if you were on console, but on PC we can fix that with a few commands. First make a manual save, just in case. This first command brings up the S.P.E.C.I.A.L menu screen that is shown to you when you exit the Vault, at the start of the game.

showSPECIALmenu

You'll notice that the total number of S.P.E.C.I.A.L points left is negative. Take a screenshot of your normal points, as we'll have to temporarily lower these. Lower your points until the remaining shows 0, then up at the top, change your name. Press R to finalize these changes. Now, you'll be wanting your S.P.E.C.I.A.L back.

player.setav <variable> <amount>

Use the above command to fix any changes you had to make, substituting variable for one of your stats, and amount as the value. The following is just an example.

player.setav charisma 6

You're done!

Using console commands now disables achievements.

Wrong, it uses the same engine as Skyrim, AKA Creation Engine, not Gambryo.

Perhaps you are right. Fallout 4 uses the same game engine from Fallout 3 and NV, but for some reason there is no longer that penalty.

I can confirm that the steam achievement lock thing is bullshit, used all sorts of commands and other nonsense to debug a bugged quest but still got an achievement for completing it afterwards.

You can avoid the whole player.setav step. After you change your name you can hit 'R' to accept even though it's greyed out. Just make sure you don't decrease any of your SPECIAL stats.
