Railway Trench 4xA

Descrizione
Submerge your railway network into these reinforced trenches. Build up to six parallel tracks with zero-grade roads and pathways running accross. These sections are inspired by the Alameda Corridor, a 20-mile freight connection in Los Angeles, California. It's more or less proof-of-concept, the mesh is quite plain / low poly.

This asset has been moved to the Public Transportation tab. It's now compatible with Extra Landscaping Tools.

An in-depth guide on how you can build below-ground networks using terraform tools and assets:
http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=546535326

You need the Terraform Tool to lower/raise the ground, otherwise they will just sit on top of your terrain. None of the tracks are actually underground, they are simply placed one level below the rest of your city. If you are familiar with other sunken / elevated assets, I think you will feel right at home. :)

I recommend rerouting your trains first, flattening a large area (-12m or more) and placing roads as guides. Attach the walls to the roads and reserve space for any bridges. Now replace the roads with railways. You can zone and build roads up to 1 cell from the edge. Residences will happily pop up next to your newly lowered tracks...

Category: Decoration, Train
Service: Park
Cost: 1200
Upkeep: 6,40/week
Entertainment: 80
Range: 80
Cells: 2x1
Actual size: ~6x5
No tourism/power/water/waste

These things do absolutely nothing but improve the land value and compensate for noisy passenger or cargo trains. Lights can be turned on and off by connecting or disconnecting from your power grid (they will only light up in urbanized areas).

~220 tris base, 80 tris LOD
1024x1024 Diff + Spec
128x128 LOD

Known Issue:
- A bit of z-fighting when viewed from far away, mainly where the floors meet in the middle. Tried my best to prevent it by slightly offsetting the surface.

is it necessary to use terraform 0.9? can I use bloody pinguin terraform instead? or is it OK to have two of those?

Hi! I have tried for hours and hours to get this to work. The only issue i have is when i am going to flatten the terrain around the trench, it just levels the trench once the terrain gets under the trenches. Have you any tips/experience with this? I need this in my City! :-p

The open trench part was easy. Getting the end tunnels to completely cover the ingame tunnel transition took me a while (many, many redos) to get right.

@Thrillhouse You do need to make use of a mix of terraforming tools, anarchy tools and move it in order to make proper use of assets like this one.

Not sure if it's because of MT or what, but since I started playing again after getting MT I can't seem to place rails that actually sit on top of the asset, they always go underneath, so do the roads that I use to set it up after I place this. Is there any chance you could make this as a prop or at least remove the roadside requirement so that I can lower it with move it?

I agree with agamemnicon! could you please make e free ploppable version. So actually a PROP version so we can use the 'prop line tool' to make long trenches easily

Thanks! I'll check it out. I'm a total noob at editing stuff, let alone modding. But I totally get why you made them this way. I'll let you know if I have any luck:)

Hey Agamemnicon, thanks! Afaik, it's only possible to change placement style in the asset editor using mod tools: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=429744078 These are currently set to roadside because it makes it more easy to align them, but you would be looking for the OnGround option...

@GCVos I love these, thank you for making them. And also making me aware of the awesome project in real life.

My question is though, since I have a complicated network already in place, and I use Move It a lot, is it possible to remove the road-snapping requirement of this prop? I'm not necessarily asking you to release another version that is free-ploppable, but I'm wondering if I could do it with the asset editor. I really want to use these, but I can only imagine the hours and hours it would take to demolish, rebuild, and reorganize my rail lines, so I'd love to just plop these wherever and then use Move It to adjust. Just thought I'd ask.
