Ashokan

This map is based on an 18x18km heightmap of the Ashokan Reservoir in the Catskill Mountains of New York. The dam was constructed between 1907 and 1915 to supply New York City with water.

The main point of interest on this map is that all the terrain downstream of the dam running across the middle of the map is “below sea level” so to speak. The combination of these low-lying areas with gently sloping heights north of the dam could make for some beautiful city prospects from higher ground. The dam causeway has been broadened so that roads can be constructed on it.

Trees, trees, trees. Ore and oil in the heights, farms in the lowlands. Three ship paths service the entire length of the reservoir. Two spillways and artificial drainage at the east end of the reservoir create a slight current that should sweep sewage away.

The intersections are Timboh’s Y-Stack Interchange and Timboh’s A-Trumpet Interchange.

Though this map should work as a 9-tile map, a 25-tile mod is recommended. Choose the location of your international airport carefully as there are a limited number of viable sites. I have not tested hydroelectric dam sites.
