1) DESCRIPTION:

Own the best view in all of Skyrim!
- realistic acquisition and short immersive backstory -

This hidden abode once belonged to a great alchemist - and there is so much more to it than first meets the eye!
Looking up at the face of the mountain towering above the lower lands, tiered wooden structures can be made out nestled against the rock face. From there, you can see almost all of skyrim, and even dragons flying below.

Hidden in the stony core of the mountain lies a private cave system, made into a spacious and comfortable home, offering anything an adventurer of Skyrim could need in a unique and distinctive environment!

Don't just stumble across a conveniently abandoned mansion - this player home comes with a diary relating a short, but fully immersive backstory!

FEATURES:

- Player owned bed
- many safe storage options
- well stocked kitchen
- lots of harvestable and respawning ingredients
- fully equipped alchemy and enchanting corner
- interactive bookshelves
- small armory with weapon displays and mannequin
- private cave with smithy, complete with workbench, sharpening wheel, tanning rack and smelter
- secret hidden chest here: behind the waterfall and the hanging moss in the cave below the living quarters

- all decorated with love and attention to detail!

2) Q&A:

Q: DO I need any other mods or DLC to use this mod?

A: This mod uses only vanilla content. You don't need anything other than Skyrim.
...............................................................................................................................................................

Q: Is this some freaky deaky anime stuff, or does it fit with the original game?

A: the mod is completely lore-friendly and will not change the feel or atmosphere of the TES universe.
...............................................................................................................................................................

Q: where can I find the lookout?

A: it's easy to find following one of these ways:
If you have already discovered Northwind Mind, travel there. The entrance to the lookout lies roughly opposite. There is a map marker for the Lookout, it can be found north-west of Riften, about halfway to Winterhold.
...............................................................................................................................................................

Q: But the door is locked! How can I get the key?

A: There is a dead body behind a stone wall next to the road at the foot of the cliff below the balcony. Just travel down the windong path from the entrance to the lookout, until you reach a paved road. Turn left and continue to the crossroads, where you turn left again and head west. When the road starts to climb again, continue a few paces to the top, and there you go! The body is located behind the wall on the left.
...............................................................................................................................................................

Q: Help! The body doesn't show up! What do I do?

A: there are several things you can do here:
a) go into a cave or other, wait for 24h once or twice
b) uninstall the mod and remove the file - load any save - make a new save without the mod installed - exit the game - reinstall the mod - load the new save - travel immediately to the body
c) you can find a spare key in a hollow stump. Standing in front of the door to the Lookout, facing away from it, step off the small protruding edge and turn left. Keeping the mountain side to your left, walk along it counter clock-wise. When facing north again, you should see the stump!
d) if all else fails: using the console:
Option 1: type help alchemist'slookoutkey. This produces a list of things with a similar name. Find the key and note the corresponding number. Now type player.additem (noted number) 1. This will add the key to your inventory!
Option 2: Open the console , click the door, type "unlock", and hit <enter>.
...............................................................................................................................................................

Q: Can I take my follower(s) here?

A: Yes. The entire area was navmeshed, so that any followers can keep up with you as usual.
...............................................................................................................................................................

Q: Can my family live here?

A: They might, if you have a mod installed that allows them to live anywhere else than official player homes. However, this home was constructed for solitary living, hidey-hole style, so there is only one doublebed.
...............................................................................................................................................................

Q: Are the container safe for storage?

A: Every single container inside or directly around the house are safe for storage.
...............................................................................................................................................................

Q: is there a faster way than through the two load doors?

A: once "discovered", you can fast travel to the balcony.
...............................................................................................................................................................

Q: where did my horse go?

A: it will be waiting for you in front of the cave entrance to the Lookout.

Game devs have been very responsive lately. The Long Dark was the first IMO to take user feedback seriously to the point that they had an open thread for user suggestions. I took the liberty of listing everyone's suggestions, mine included in group format as a single post as time went by to help make sure the good suggestions weren't overlooked, and they listened. Much of what I was asking for as well as what others wanted made it to the game, which made it very satisfying to play, I still go back once in a while to play it, but it's a grindy game, takes a long time to get going, so I never last long.

That sounds pretty awesome! I've never really been able to get into online gaming myself, but I know tons of people who still play Rust religiously! I bet they are more likely than me to have heard of your stuff and the server you mentioned. It's pretty crazy how sometimes the community around a game or franchise can have a pretty big effect on future developments. It's awesome when devs pay attention to the culture their games inspire and allow that culture to shape the game itself in some ways :D

Hell yeah on TES6! Modding and creation does bring people together for sure. I never figured out how to create stuff other than maps to be honest. I did make a very popular PVE Rust server, so that was creation in a way, again using other people's work, but I put the mods together in such a fashion that it became a thing. To the point that Facepunch got the message and went in the direction of adding more PVE bots to the map vanilla. I helped a friend clone my server, and he continued to mod like I was when he carried the torch, went a little further than I would have but it was nice to have a similar place to go when I shut it down, infact it's still up today, it's called "Bot Wars Redux" if you're into Rust check it out.

@Some Old Gamer lmao I guess it kinda did go out of style. Even so, Skyrim and the mods are holding up pretty well considering the age of the game. Guess we're all just patiently waiting for ES VI haha
I just remember I used to read hours and hours of wikihow's on modding and I just don't quite feel like doing that again just yet. Nice to chat with another creator though! I guess this stuff tends to bring people together.

I learned to mod games on Skyrim years ago, with other people's work, I mean install them and basically I learned how the file system really works with this game. That took me to COH, then Rust, I'm just revisiting Skyrim out of boredom, but thanks for responding.

@BadKarma, If I could remember how I would... lol. @flashyraccoon, i hear ya I can't manage to figure out how to make COH maps anymore, I used to pump them out like it was going out of style, and ya know it did.

Some Old Gamer: build a Hearthfire homestead, you'll get more than enough storage fr all junk.
flashyraccoon  [author] 30 May, 2023 @ 9:51am
I really hate to disappoint but tbh it's highly unlikely I'll be making any more updates to this mod. It's been years since I've touched creation kit and all that, and I've moved from creating content as a hobby to doing it professionally. Maybe I'll pick it back up again in my spare time one day, who knows.
Anyway, I hope you still enjoy the other aspects of the mod, even if it's a bit short on storage for your liking! :)
Some Old Gamer 30 May, 2023 @ 6:38am
I hope I'm missing a storage area because I'm new to the mod
Some Old Gamer 30 May, 2023 @ 6:33am
I love the place, but there's one major problem. Not enough storage. I like at least two boxes near my black smithing area and 4 near my enchanting and alchemy area. I like at least 3 in my sleeping quarters also, but I prefer more. I like to be organized, put things in groups, the more boxes the less confusing each storage container is. Sorry no disrespect, great mod, but some more storage would be nice :) maybe change the one open box in the black smith area to storage as a minimum??
