Description
Example is an example map that comes with the Source SDK. It shows the minimum needed entity setup for a functioning Mann vs. Machine map as well as including a mission that showcases all features in the mission file format in a decently sane manner. The provided mission file starts all players with 20,000 credits to spend on upgrades.

Valve made this map. I took the liberty of uploading it onto the Workshop in case you wanted to try out this mission/map with friends on a multiplayer server. It's devilishly hard all by yourself unless you get insane upgrades, powerups, addconds, and stuff. But imagine how fast it would go if you had five others helping!

Unfortunately, MvM uploads to the workshop cannot include the necessary .nav or .pop files (I'll briefly explain what those are in a moment.) All you can upload are the BSP files of the basic map data. So to get the other files you need, click here:

Okay, so Steam doesn't like Mediafire links. So you'll need to navigate to mediafire yourself and then add the following strings after ".com":
/download/cid9945zdcvdqo5/mvm_example.pop (Population file)
/download/rgcn48tlbxtlt5c/mvm_example.nav (Navigation mesh)

A population (.pop) file works for one MvM mission. It tells the game how each wave of a mission should go, including which bots spawn, what the bots names are, what weapons they get, any buffs or powerups they get, when they spawn, and the delay between spawning based on how many bots are alive at a given time.

A Navigation Mesh file, or navmesh (.nav) is a file tied directly to any Source engine map that tells AI bots and other NPCs where they're able to walk or fly (accessible surfaces) and where good places to snipe from or build sentries are.

A big thanks goes out to the editors of the Example article on the wiki for making the screenshots I used here. I could have made my own screenshots, but it was easier to pull from the wiki.

You can either download the Source SDK (software development kit) using Steam, and look up instructions on the TF2 wiki's article about this "Example" map (linked in the description of this workshop item), or you can completely read everything in the description I wrote for this workshop item for an alternate download of the .pop and .nav files.
