Description
Hydaspes Class Destroyer, DD-02 Castillon

Hydaspes class destroyers are the first true warship in the Eridani Union since the retirement of the Prague Class. Though it is true the Union's corvettes and frigates are designed with combat in mind, the political and economic situation in solar system has meant building ships that can double in peacetime roles. Only recently has the situation changed enough that it was deemed nessecary to use resources for a pure combat ship.

Currently there are two schools of thought regarding warship design in space. The first is to follow traditional design and build a ship based around delivering a high volume of guided missiles to the target. The development of increasingly advanced point defence systems has lead to the second school of thought which is to deliver a large kinetic kill vehicle to punch through defences and defeat the target. The Hydaspes follows the latter design while its sister class, the Leipzig, follows the former.

The whole front of the ship is built around a larger version of the Hebrides' gravity assisted torpedo (GAT) tube. The rest of the ship is dedicated to support systems for additional weapons and crew. There is no extra room on board for comforts or non military facilities. Furthermore, the whole superstructure is buried under a dozen modular armor plates. These plates are designed to try and keep damage away from the habital sections of the ship and then be easily replaced with new plates in drydock.

Keeping with its limited focus, the Hydaspes class does not feature a larger cargo bay than necessary for itself. It was decided the class should not pull double duty as a cargo hauler. There is room for two small ships, either cargo loaders or scout craft depending on it's mission load, but this destroyer is not built for extensive small ship support.

Really a very nice ship, but will heavily damage itself when thruster damage is activated

@Nuclear_Narwhal Sorry about that, this ship was last updated a year ago. Since then Keen has changed the projector alighments (as well as several other things) which has made some features like the torpedoes not function as originally built. When I get more time to build again I will be going back and updating these ships to bring them in line with the games changes.

Alright so the gravity cannon was a simple fix, I just adjusted the gravity ranges so the generators would not exert to much force on the torpedo.

Very cool ship. Its exterior is just incledible. The armor plates coupled with the blue lighting is just top notch. Cant wait to test out your gravity canon too! Those can be hard to make.

Very nice. VERY nice for a ship with no mods!
I particularly like the ventral blue lighting and the double hangar doors.
The "red alert" lighting is a nice touch. I do that on my ships, too, because it's just so fun. :Khappy:

@mecra Ok so I did some testing tonight and you are absolutely right. Im getting it to work only 60% of the time. I built and tested the gun over a month and a half ago, I'm assuming something happened in patches because the same exact gun on my Hebrides is having the same issue now. I'll post an update when I have a fix, good catch.

It's a neat ship. However the gravity cannon isn't very robust. I fired one shot and then reloaded and it blew up in the chamber without any movement. I would tie more to timer blocks to prevent misfiring.
