Sentinel - Outbreak - Esseker Edition

Description
Type:
Single Player Mission

Description:
(Version 1.05)

This is a sandbox style mission where the player must escape from a region where there's been an outbreak of a highly contagious rage-inducing virus, which turns those who have been infected into blood-thirsty, violent lunatics.

The mission begins with the player - the lone survivor of a plane crash - regaining consciousness and realising that the rest of the crew have vanished. As a result the player literally starts alone and empty-handed and will need to make use of whatever weapons and equipment they find scattered around in buildings, vehicles and dead bodies in order to survive long enough to find a means of escaping the country.

The player isn't alone however, and trying to stay alive is made even more challenging as they will have to either evade or kill the crazed remnants of those that have been infected by the virus; as well as groups of non-infected survivors that still roam the land and make their living through the indiscriminate murder and looting of anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path.

Features:
* Randomised starting locations and random loot spawns in almost all the buildings mean that you'll have a different experience each time you play.

* 3 Different ways to complete the mission, including 2 different methods of escaping from Esseker and a highly optional 'King of the Wasteland' ending for the murdering sociopaths among you.

* Random Bandits/Marauders spawning at certain locations and with random gear.

* Simple text based narration courtesy of IndeedPete's conversation system.

* Vehicles that have a random chance of spawning at certain locations, each with varying degrees of fuel remaining and damage done.

* Hordes of infected that will pursue you relentlessly for as long as they can see/sense you, with more spawning closer to villages and cities.

* The infected can cripple/kill the player with several hits, and will damage and eventually destroy the player's vehicle if they managed to swarm around it and keep pounding it with their fists and rocks.

* Compatible with ACE3, but this will make the mission slightly harder.

* Custom sounds and textures for a richer experience.

* An underground bunker area that is created through the clever use of scripts and existing structures, it's not pretty, but it is functional.

Known Issues:
- There's still issues with the underground bunker section of the map, particularly with regards to it making the player go into the skydiving animation whenever he steps off a ladder or falls down.
This is due to the altitude this area is set at (2500M), and while for the most part it isn't too much of a problem and has been fixed with some scripting, occasionally the player will stay in the skydiving animation and float a few feet above the ground.
The best fix for this is to drop your weapon or put it in your backpack (or if you're using ACE3 - just put your weapon on your back), this will change the player's animation and he'll land as normal.

- There's a few buildings in the map that the infected still struggle to navigate properly, although this is more of an issue with Arma 3's poor AI than mission design.

- In very rare instances one or two of the infected sometimes spawn without ambient sound effects, making them particularly dangerous if you're not paying attention.

- On some occasions the pilot of the rescue helicopter will land nearby again briefly even after picking up the player, this is just another glitch in the AI, but it's not game breaking.

- Since one of the recent patches the Underground Bunker section of this mission suffers from stuttering and occassional slowdown, I've not been able to figure out what's causing this but it may be due to the new way in which the lighting is handled.

*NEW*
I've had a lot of feedback from players over the last few months, some complaining that this scenario and the infected are too difficult while many others are complaining that they're too easy, sadly there's no pleasing everyone and since this mission is over 2 years old now, there's little chance that it's ever going to change at this stage.

All I can suggest is that if you're struggling to play this then go and watch one of the YouTube videos available of either myself or someone else playing one of the Outbreak scenarios, in order to get a few pointers on how to survive. Or if you're finding it too easy, then feel free to try the Ravage edition instead or one of the many Ravage missions created by Jimmakos, as he's released some superb scenarios, including several that provide a much stronger challenge than any of the Outbreak series.

Just seen that the Armaholic website has finally hung up it's boots and shut down for good, which means that this could very well be the only place where you can download this mod.

Bear in mind that this scenario is well over 6 years old and there's probably a good chance that it's as glitchy as all hell now, especially as it relies on several other mods which have changed a lot during this time.

If I ever get enough free time I might take another look at it and see what needs to be fixed, until then I thoroughly recommend taking a look at some of Jimmakos scenarios instead as many of them are of a much superior content compared to this.

can u make a all mod support (i.e it uses weapons automatically categorised as lmgs as lmgs so you can use custom mods in the mission)

Confirmed - just tried it myself and there seems to be an issue with these missions not showing up through the steam workshop, Hammy says that he had to unsub then re-sub again in-game via the steam overlay before they worked for him, but I've tried that and they still didn't show up, so I've added a link at the top of the description to the original files located at the Armaholic website for all 3 missions. The manual installation into your missions folder should work perfectly. (That's what I'm currently doing for all 3 Outbreak missions and haven't had any issues yet)....

On a side note - I probably won't be uploading any more missions for Arma 3 via the steam workshop in future, as it's just proving to be too damn unreliable... I'll just stay with posting future work on the official BIS forums and Armaholic.

Updated for Apex/Eden, the mission should now reappear in the scenario list again. I've also added a few more spawns for the most recent version of Esseker, including Petlov Grad and the Junk Yard to the South of it. I've also updated the links to the required mods, as the All-in-Arma Terrain pack has been made obsolete by the Community Upgrade Project (CUP) Terrain complete pack.
