Description
General "State Of The Tapping" Update
October 10th, 2016

The more things change the more they stay the same.
A lot has changed since the Amanda Tapping arrived on the Workshop. Conveyors have been optimized to the point where the Standard Galaxy 3.1 runs with rocksolid 1.0 SimSpeed while unmoving and the FPS, while not all that high even at their best, have improved in some areas as well. As of this update the ship is broken in the Developer Branche due to issues implemented a few weeks ago; the World file won't load up. It works fine in Stable Branche, so if you want to take a look at her you're going to need to be on Stable. As of today the SimSpeed issues still prevent her from accelerating normally and my hopes of this changing really aren't high, sooo we're going to have to live with that, i think.

Update, 10th of January, 2016
"She's Ready"-Update

So. I'm done.
Like, not in the "this ship is now as good as i can make it" kinda way but in the "This is what the engine lets me do" kinda way. There's really only two things i feel required to add: Landing Gears for the two Secondary Hull Shuttle Bays and Gattling Turrets for self defense. However, i'm less than a thousand blocks away from crashing (don't worry, she still performs fine, it's a physics-problem, not a triangle-problem) so extensive laying of Conveyors is highly discouraged, and the turrets look ugly anyway. As for the Shuttle Bays... i may revisit them later but the game crashed so often when i tried to expand the interior in the last few days... Shuttle Bay One is ready, so there's that.
The rest is there; i consider the ship gameplay ready for exploration. Could do with more maneuverability, due to lack of secure connections she doesn't carry shuttles and even if she would there'd be no place to store them, and you really don't want to get in a fight with her. But i have finally - FINALLY - succeeded in an interior within my alloted block limit of 190 000 blocks (the crash-limit is actually between 195 and 196 thousand blocks).
I will soon upload variants, starting with an empty shell of the Galaxy 3.1-design to complement the already uploaded empty 3.0. Please, feel free to modify the ship as you see fit, i demand screenshots!

(I expected tons of small details to need fixing and i believe i found most of them during the making of the final tour video; i'm going to fix them as soon as i get the chance.)

"Little Ripples Make Big Waves."

Welcome to the upload of the Galaxy 3.1 Project in it's final stage.
I present to you a Galaxy Class starship designed for Space Engineers Survival-use. This vessel is now "complete", though i'm using that term in the loosest of senses as the ship would had a vastly more extensive interior if Havok let me.
Havok doesn't let me. In fact the ship is within a few hundred blocks away from what Havok can handle. The FPS aren't terrible and both UPS and Sim-Speed stay at perfectly acceptable, high levels at least when she is standing still - but there's just no more interior in the engine. I wish this would change but i doubt it.

While the Bridge on Deck 01 keeps alive the old ambition to recreate a Galaxy Class starship and it's interior to the best of my abilities the rest of the ship's insides had to be sacrificed to the performance gods (SIM-SPEED FOR THE SIM-SPEED-GOD!!! FRAMES FOR THE FRAME THRONE!!!). The Galaxy 3.1 utilizes hidden internal Thrusters (save for use with Thruster Damage turned on) and Jump Drives in the Warp Nacelles for propulsion. Most of the buttons should be selfexplaining; if they're next to a door they probably open it or turn on/off lights. The decks are completely hooked up with oxygen but opening doors randomly depressurizes areas despite both rooms being oxygenated; i have no idea how to fix that and have stopped trying.

If you are interested in reading more about my experiences with building on a large scale in early Space Engineers - or want to know why this project carries the serial number "3.1" - visit my thread on the official Keen Software House forums:

I hear the first few chapters are a good read, at least.

The Galaxy Class, designed by Andrew Probert for STAR TREK The Next Generation and appeared in STAR TREK The Next Generation, STAR TREK Deep Space Nine, STAR TREK Voyager, STAR TREK Enterprise and the movie STAR TREK GENERATIONS, most famously represented by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D.)

The Galaxy Class starship U.S.S. Amanda Tapping is named after actress, director and social activist Amanda Tapping, known primarily from her roles as Samantha Carter and Helen Magnus (Stargate and Sanctuary, respectively), but who'd rather be known for her work for the humanitarian organization "Sanctuary For Kids".
<<<The mission of "Sanctuary for Kids" is to improve the lives of children around the world who need protection and are in crisis – those who are exploited, dispossessed and threatened. [...] S4K was founded by Amanda Tapping, Damian Kindler, and Jill Bodie through their connection to the television series Sanctuary.>>>

WOW! Lol. I see this is what I'll expect when if I were to build my own 1:1 scale. Lol.
Very good build Rotal!:steamhappy:

Beautiful ship. I get no lag with my i9 and 32 gigs of RAM, we've come a long way since 2015. Going to give it some detailed small-grid interiors.

Thanks for the update, the new one is fantastic. Thank you for your continued effort.

@MadHaTr :3 thanks for the interest! I don't usually update individual blueprints like this anymore, instead i post iterations to both preserve earlier work and compare them later on, as well as just doodling around without needing to hawk my blueprints. What you are seeking is basically this ship right here: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1732619205 , an updated and mostly rebuilt version of this ship.

Someone should update this, I head about them on the KeenCommunityNetwork twitch stream replay today. I guess you can have a few of these ships in game and it runs well now. New tech in the ship would be cool.

oh, well i hope your rehab goes well and you get better soon.
and what i meant was since this world was made so long ago. it isn't up to date with the upgrades to the software. so it is still running in like 1.3 or something like that.
Commander Rotal  [author] 11 Aug, 2019 @ 8:47am
I'll check 'em out! :D

Graphics... you mean for Workshop Screenshots? If so, well, i suppose it's high time to do that XD buuuut that ain't possible while i'm on rehab; i tried running SE on this laptop, it doesn't even reach the Main Menu before freezing the entire machine ^^ I'll keep it in mind though.
big_blue_4101 10 Aug, 2019 @ 1:08pm
have you considered opening up this world to bring it's graphics and such up to date?
