Description
**UPDATE** - Looks like the new version of the Stargate mod has small grid gates so I'll be making a small ship Space Gate soon.

A simple space gate inspired by the many stargates in Stargate Atlantis. It's just a gate, a gyro, a battery and thrusters.

Check out The Stargate Experience v0.1

This is a ship I've designed for my immersive infinite Stargate world which I'm calling "The Stargate Experience" but that's just a working title. I plan to "seed" my infinite world with dozens of gates like this, in addition to stations, bases and ships which will also have gates. (Planets too when they come out.) They will have unique names/addresses and can be discovered through exploration, manual dialing (but who has the patience for that), and by investigating other gated locations.

Right now I'm looking for station, base and ship designs that would work well in an immersive Stargate world. Not just SE versions of ships or places from the series, but also new or inspired designs. Remember this is going to be a survival world, so nothing too OP or unbalanced. Also only the Stargate mod and the Azimuth Complete Mega Mod pack are being used currently and I'd like to keep the number of mods down and those I do use MUST be DX11 compatible. (Those mods porting to DX11 are being updated and I want this world to last a long while.)

Let me know if you want to help or have a design I can use in the world and enjoy this sneak peek.

@Airomis: That's an option that's set in advanced settings for each world/save. It's called "station voxel support," and it's not something that can be built into a mod (at least I don't think it can be).
@Silvak Lance: I discovered recently that Wormhole Portal has a mount point on the bottom AND top of their stargates, which should make designs easier, though it's kinda dissapointing that none of the gates in either mod seem to have small grid compatibility, that would *really* make things easier.

I don't know how to modify the game code for DE but could you just change the setting in the code to prevent it from moving like old stations?

I say "refined" but that's really just slang for more complicated and even more likely to be impossible.

@Airomis That would be a quick solution. A more refined version of your idea would be a version of the Stargate itself that is immovable, the model could even add those rc thrusters you can see on spacegates from the show.

What we need is a block that can be invisible but provides a fixed point that will not move with gravity or collision that the gates can be placed on

Maybe you could try putting them around the sides? It'd be kinda nice if the gates had multiple mount points. Also were small-ship grid compatible.

@astrocom I tried moving the gyro and thruster as you suggested. You can check that out here . There isn't any good place to put the gyro and it also is a couple of blocks longer, which kind of seems too big now for just a space gate.

@astrocom It's a pretty new feature that wouldn't be automaticly enabled in an existing world or server (you can enable it manually though). New worlds have it enabled from the start unless you actively choose to disable it. It's handy to kick it off if you are building in Creative mode, but adds some realism in Survival.

I didn't realize I had that option disabled.
DanteVento  [author] 24 Jul, 2015 @ 2:13pm
@astrocom That is if station voxel support is disabled. Station Voxel Support makes any block not connected to a voxel float away when bumped and would not do well for a stationary gate. Thus I chose to setup the gyros and thrusters and those being the only reason to give it power.

I had considered using a dual connector setup to transition to a small ship to make it smaller, however due to the possibility of a power fluctuation disrupting the connection I chose this larger version.
