Swedish architecture: Stockholm row/terraced houses
17 items
Description
***Updated: windows now light up at night!***

The one bedroom homes on Kvarnholmen in Nacka - just south-east of Stockholm proper - were built to house the workers of the nearby mill. They were also among the very first modernist buildings to appear in Sweden. Now this pixel version is even smaller but just as void of unnecessary embellishments!

Updated with randomly appearing props and trees.

Now part of the Stockholm Row Houses Building Theme! Find it here: http://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=482273700&searchtext=stockholm

Stats:

Level 1, low density residential
Grows on 1x2, 1x3 and 1x4 lots

Main model: 804 triangles
Custom LOD: 65 triangles

Main texture: 1024x1024 px
LOD texture: 256x256 px

Great! There may well be more buildings coming and I'll definitely consider adding some variety by altering the ones I've already made. Reducing the poly count however... I'll do my best, but I doubt I'll ever reach as low as 200. Or even 400. But try I will.

My week of no computer starts tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully I'll have time to test the theme before that but if not it'll be the first thing I do upon my return from the Scandinavian wilderness. Thanks for all your help, boformer!

Btw: Corner buildings are also possible. You just have to modify a value using Mod Tools (I can write down the steps). Just keep in mind that corner buildings will never upgrade to straight buildings, that means you will have to create 5 more buildings.

What do you think would be more realistic? I will create a theme mod for option 1 (option 2 and 3 require features which are still in development) and share it with you (and you can share it with your friends).

We will test it. If it is good, we will release it to the public. If we are not happy with it, we will try the other option.

Tomorrow I will have the time to create the theme mod. Accept my friendship request so I can add you as a contributor (so you will see the private mod).

Your models are some of the best I've seen yet. What you can try to do is to reduce the poly count. Other buildings with a similar size are at 200 to 400 polys.

You could convert the bicycle stand to a prop so the mesh can be shared between assets.

New buildings would also be great. Maybe variations of the ones you made, with little attachments and changes to have a little bit more variety.

I like the first alternative best, but you do as you see fit. After all, you're the expert on these things :-) I'm really grateful for all the hard work you've put into making this aspect of the game work as it should. Now, just tell me how to proceed and I'll do my best to get this thing done before my upcoming week-long break from the computer!

wow, now there are buildings for every wealth level :) I think the time has come to create a swedish row house building theme!

I worked hard on my building themes mod. Soon it will allow you to create clones of your buildings with different wealth levels assigned. On upgrade, those buildings are not replaced with a random building, but with the higher-level clone version.

I think that your row homes look better when many of the same kind are next to each other.

Now there are 3 options how can create building themes:

1. We can create a simple theme that just contains your 5 row homes. This one will grow first, then will upgrade to your L2 building, then L3, L4. The good thing is, when the district reached a certain level, all buildings will be the same and you get a nice row house effect.

2. We clone all of your buildings for all levels and put them into one theme. That means there will be a L1/L2/L3/L4/L5 version of all of your buildings. All buildings will spawn initially. That will maximize variety and ensure that all of your models will be seen (L5 is quite rare)

3. We create 2 themes with similar buildings inside and fill the missing levels with clones of your buildings:

Theme A:
Stockholm Kvarnholmen for Level 1
Stockholm Bagarmossen for Level 2 and 3
Stockholm Karrtorp for Level 4 and 5

Theme B:
Stockholm Hokarangen for Level 1 and 2
Stockholm Appelviken for Level 3, 4 and 5

I would prefer the third option. What do you think?

Wonderful job once again. LOVE the unique yet realistic style you bring to the table.
