This is a simple map to some useful locations, using the 'default' world generation seed. These are only a few close to spawn that I have personally encountered, obviously there are more.

skull: ancient skull (quest item hidden in a boulder)
skull and crossbones: pirate township (specifically the part of it with loot)
stone disk: cultist altar (quest location for purifing the ancient skull)
stone pedestal: ancient altar (for sacrificing an ancient heart/summoning the dark guardian)
ship: abandoned pirate ship
bed: inn
coins: merchant
red x on sand: desert island/treasure hunter
red x on grass: natural treasure cache
