About the Mod
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a unit expansion pack for the North African factions in Total War: Rome 2. These factions are Masaesyli, Gaetuli, Garamantia and Nasamones.

This mod Adds 11 completely new units, 4 completely new naval units, unlocks 3 existing units, and visually overhauls 5 existing units. There are more small tweaks which i won't go into here. All new units are historically accurate, and fit in seamlessly with the default game. This was not difficult as these factions are shamefully lacking in the base game. All of these units are available to the player and the AI. To play as these factions you will need to use a faction unlock mod, there are plenty available on the workshop. All the units are available to the Masaesyli and Gaetuli, but for Garamantia and the Nasamones, the Numidian units are not available as they are not Numidian peoples. However Garamantia and the Nasamones have access to the Large shield warriors and African Spear levies which the Masaesyli and Gaetuli do not. The reasoning for this is because while the factions were similar they were not identical and were geographically separate.

Units Summary
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One word best summarises these new units. Light. Historically the North Africans were a Berber people and they fielded very few heavy units, the vast majority of their units historically and in this mod, are light, fast, with a lot of javelins. In fact almost every single new unit has javelins. If you're a Roman or Greek player you will need to switch to tactics of hit and runs and missile barrages, as trying to brute force your way to victory in melee will not generally work with these units especially against the factions which favour heavy infantry such as Rome.

The New units.

Numidian Light Infantry - An early game light infantry, better than your basic spearmen.
Berber Javelinmen - Good javelinmen, not so terrible in melee as basic javelinmen.
Berber Tribal Warriors - A good mid game cheap melee unit, good at offense not so much defense.
Numidian Legionaries - Late game, the only true heavy infantry, a not quite as good copy or roman legionaries
Berber Cavalry - Medium shock cavalry, yes medium shock, they're fast and pack a punch but don't have great armour
Berber Noble Warriors - Your best offensive melee unit but lacking heavy armour
Numidian Veteran Cavalry - Possibly the best skirmisher cavalry in the entire game, acceptable in melee as well
Imported Camel Cavalry - Quite good camel cavalry all round
Garamantian Desert Chariots - Fast and light chariots of the Garamantians, highly skilled
Garamantian Heavy Chariots - A great heavy chariot unit, should be used wisely
Garamantian Warriors - A brilliant ambush unit, masters of hiding and can deploy outside the usual deployment zone

Overhauled Units

Numidian Cavalry - Now they look like they did historically, topless, fur shield, long hair, and a horse without reins
Large Shield Warriors - They look much better and less like a generic spear levy and they actually have huge shields
African Spear Levy - Made them look a lot more random, like they're from many different tribes and areas and not all clones
Numidian Javelinmen - They now look like their cavalry counterparts but on foot
Numidian Spearmen - Removed the generic levy spearmen look and gave them more variety of shields and clothing including long hair and topless variants

Pre-existing unlocked units

African Chariot Raiders - It made no sense for these chariot loving nations to not have this basic chariot unit
African Elephants - The north africans were famous for their excessive usage of elephants in warfare, so it made no sense that they would be locked for these factions.
African War Elephants - Same as above

Naval Units exist for

Berber Tribal Warriors
Numidian Legionaries
Berber Noble Warriors
Numidian Light Infantry

--------------------------------
Credit goes to the Divide Et Impera team for the fur shields you see in this mod.
And a big thanks to Total War Zone for the mod review video.
