Introduction

Independent Contractors adds several NPC Grid Encounters to your game. This includes Space and Planetary Cargo Ships, and Planetary Installations.

Mod Rebranding

Previously, there were 3 mods (Air Traffic, Surface Occupation, and Reddit Custom Encounters) that contained a variety of ships and stations. These three mods were reworked to have modernized grid systems, and to fit into 3 faction-specific mods (Imber, Incon, Parallax).

What is Independent Contractors?

Independent Contractors (Incon) are a collective of ships and station operators. They are not affiliated with larger organizations such as Imber or Parallax. Contractors do have a level of respect for one another, so it's not uncommon to see cooperation between their ships and stations.

These groups are sometimes targeted by the larger organizations when they trespass in their territories, and on the flip side, some contractors have been known to attack ships owned by the larger orgs.

Types of Encounters

Incon includes a variety of ships and stations that spawn in all environments. These encounters are hostile by default towards players and other NPCs.

Ships will typically spawn with basic cargo ship behavior (flying from point A to point B). If you lower your reputation with Incon to a low enough point, then some of their more militarized ships will deviate from their cargo ship path to directly engage you if you get too close.

Both ships and stations will sometimes spawn with drones that will escort or patrol the areas near its parent grid.

Stations may call for help when attacked. If there is an eligible cargo ship near by, it may deviate from its path to attack the player that is assaulting the station - otherwise drones may be spawned instead.

Special Counter-Measures

Incon encounters are equipped with Energy Inhibitor Modules that will slowly depelete player energy when too close to these grids. This effect intensifies as you get closer to the module. Stations are also equipped with Hand Drill Inhibitor Modules that will interfere with player drill use when too close to a station. These effects do not happen while players are piloting a grid.

@ServTechnic MES settings are stored in Config files in a subfolder where your save is. It differentiates between Space/Planetary ships, in the config files are settings like "MinPathDistanceFromPlayer" that you can increase. Don't forget to increase "MaxPathDistanceFromPlayer" accordingly as well, they should clamp the desired distance with some margins.

Hey, so we installed this mod (Independent Contractors) with friends and honestly it's very cool, much more NPC to interact with... but im not sure if there is a setting or we dont get something

EVERY game NPC find us and bombard us, and im not talking like big base with antenas, im talking literally start of the game, like first 30 min or so... at some point we spawned in space to roam around, and found huge hollow asteroid without any antenas or beacons... one of the just found us, crashed into asteroid and started draining energy undtil we died....

like how do they find us? or how to make them spawn a bit further away? becuase if we move away they spawn nearby and just come to us... any help pls? (we have some other mods like EEM and Reavers but only this one keeps on causing like camping)

You might try going into the game save file and enabling random encounters and cargo ships there. MES takes control of these features and turns them off so that the games regular spawns don't also occur.

I had this issue myself in the past and modifying the game save file then reloading seemed to give MES the kick in the pants in needed to start spawning again.
Hi! Can you help me please? I have stopped comparing ships and only the bases of the "Imber" and "Parallax" and "Junk" factions appear. I have downloaded quite a lot of mods for NPCs in the open world. I have survival in on Earth. Previously, ships appeared extremely often. Not right now. I noticed it a long time ago, but I waited and waited, but the ships never appeared. Maybe this is due to tm that I have too many NPC mods? Or... well, I turn on the random cargo ships mode and another mode for the appearance of random encounters in the advanced settings of the world, I enter the world and as I exit, these two settings are deleted. Or are there too many ships in the world that I knocked out but did not completely destroy and the limit on NPCs does not give a chance for new ships to appear? What should I do to make ships appear in the world again?

@Into That's pretty strong gravity. I don't think INC ships uses blocks with improved performance when an npc-faction owns it (like IMB or PLX), and I know for a fact that several of the larger ships are nerfed. Conveyors are broken in one or more places by exra batteries or something so it's not obvious. As long as the H2 gennies and smaller tanks can provide it stays in the air, but eventually they will crash (usually on it's nose).

Each encounter that can spawn in gravity has a MaxGravity check it does, so under normal circumstances if they can spawn they should be able to handle the gravity. If that's not the case, then its likely another mod is affecting power or thrust ability that throws those numbers off.
